Hi Virgo,

You are going to have a wonderful time in Paris! I go every year and each time I discover something new. However keep in mind that August is when many Parisians go on holiday so a few things may be closed or have different hours. So just be mindful of that when making plans.

As far as economical restaurants in Paris, your best bet would be to dine at bistros and brasseries.

Money can also be saved by having your main meal at lunch and taking advantage of the prix fixe(fixed price) menu offered during lunch. For breakfast you can grab a cafe and croissant at a neighborhood cafe. In Europe, if you sit at a table you pay more, so have your breakfast at the counter and you will save that way too.

Too, Paris has no shortage of great boulangeries so grab a baguette and get some meat and cheese and have a picnic with a bottle of modest French wine. The Monoprix stores have decent French wine at good prices and you can pick up modest priced food there as well.

Culturally, no trip to Paris can be complete without a trip to the Louvre and Musee D' Orsay. In addition to the usual suspects like the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and the Arc De Triomphe. A stroll down the Champs Elysees is a must just to appreciate the grand design of the boulevard. A cruise down the Seine is also a great experience and ambling through the Ile St. Louis and Montmartre. A stroll in the Tuileries and Luxembourg gardens are great experiences as well.

Lastly, English is widely spoken throughout Paris, but a few phrases in French always helps. Remember too that when entering Paris stores/cafes a greeting is in order. A simple bonjour is always appreciated.

I hope this has helped you.

I can give you some advise. I know it is not what you asked but be sure to let your bank know your going and how long so they don't think somebody stole your credit card. They will turn it off on you.

Go to the Plum Village Monastery in St. Foy La Grande outside of Bordeaux. They'll let you live the noble, communal Buddhist life there. They always have visitors.
