Dress how you would for a cool spring day. It may rain. I'm not saying don't wear sneakers, but that is one way they will know you are a tourist (in case you ARE trying to blend in somewhat). Most French wear shoes around town, not sneakers. |

Stick to darker neutral colors such as black, gray, brown, etc. You can still have color but keep it confined to accessories such as a scarf or handbag or maybe even a t-shirt or blouse. Make sure whatever you pack is easy to mix and match. Speaking of scarves you will notice that everyone wears one in Europe so plan on bringing at least one.
Paris is best seen by foot and metro so a comfortable pair of walking shoes is essential. Sleek trainer tennis shoes are often worn with jeans of the skinny or slightly boot-cut variety-
DON'T wear regular gym shoes- Converse tennis shoes are another option. Ballet flats are also popular in Paris and comfortable. Another big look in Paris right now is boots worn tucked into jeans or with dresses.
Jeans are alright to wear since they are now commonly worn throughout Europe- you might want to alternate them with some trousers or a packable dress (can be layered over leggings) to take up less space in your luggage.
A trench coat is a versatile piece of outerwear for spring's sudden showers. If you have a decent one this will mostly cover up what you are wearing anyway so there's not much need to worry. Just top it off with a scarf and some big sunglasses and voila what could be more French chic!
Enjoy yourself and take some time to sit in a cafe and just people watch! |

Pretty windy these days, and rainy too...
I've often heard that we tend to dress in duller colours than american people, so if you have bright coloured clothes you may stand out a little. As for me, I don't mind a little colour to warm our end of winter days!
March is known for its "giboulées" which are sudden and sometimes violent showers of hail. One minute the sky is blue and you feel the soft warmth of the sun and the next minute everything has turned dark and there is ice pouring from the sky!! (or the other way around, mind you)
