Melody, how many of you are there?
Besides your sister Robyn, there is another girl called Danielle who is asking the same question. If she is not related to you, look at the last answer that she has had, from a French student. There is a lot of good advice there.

It is too late to take a course with Alliance Francaise in the UK but there are other ways to add to your school French before you leave.
You still have nearly five months before you start school in France, so you can still make progress with your French and broaden your knowledge before then. To help you there are several sites such as the BBC, Live mocha, etc... that are free and are useful for all basics.

You have said that you loved being in France before, so try to be positive.Think of it as a great opportunity. My grand-daughter, who had to leave Paris for the UK because of her parents' job, spoke no English at all when she arrived there. After one term at school in England she had become totally fluent. You have the advantage of already knowing some French and you are older so you will be welcomed in school and not bullied as she was by British kids.

You will be surprised how quickly you will get accustomed to the change. Expect school hours to be longer than in the UK, and a lot of homework, but otherwise you will be studying the same variety of subjects as in the UK. When you are in school do not speak English with your sister. You should both speak French, and keep the English for when you are at home. You will be particularly popular with the boys who like "les petites anglaises", but keep them at arm 's length so as not to upset the girls.
And your Dad is right, you have to practise as much as you can before you leave. Worrying yourself sick is just spoiling your life without serving any purpose.
Good luck and keep your pecker up! Things will fall into place when you get there.

I'm so jealous! I'd love to live in France.

The French are known to be ignorant, but I think they just get peed off at ignorant people not knowing the language. So you should really learn to speak basic French before you go. You will become much better at speaking French once you live there. Why don't you ask for extra lessons to do with school at your current school to help you a bit more?

Don't be nervous, it's an amazing experience. You're going to get involved with a completely different culture, enjoy it!

haven't you and your 'twin sister' Robyn already left?
Wise Owl answer to the same question three months abo seemed to have reassured you at the time.

As a rule you will probably find things more formal in France, use the polite 'Madame, Monsieur' and use 'vous' when talking to adults, teachers included.
French kids will be curious about you. Use that to become friends. Brings things from your place. Don't complain all the time that things are not like at home and home is so much better just say that things are different and explain how, you'll get more sympathy. Don't let them drag you into doing their English homework.

Im French and I am now a teacher here and I can tell you its really different at school. You ll make friends with no time and will learn French. you might have to do a class again coz the first year you ll get used to the new system. Im sure people will be very encourageing and will help you a lot. they ll invite you every where and ull be a curiousity!

the only thing you should be worried about is the work. you ll have much more work to do, more rules, dont think that the teachers will give you a pen like in the UK when you forgot it. no no, remember all your homework, no discussion and longer days, but no school on wednesdays usually. School isnt as much fun as in the UK, its harder and you learn a lot but its a bit old fashion and boring really.

you ll be fine and love the food!

keni
you will be fine. we are. many of the local French people are as keen to improve their English as I am to polish my French so we swap tips.
