The must see sights of Paris make for a very long list and I wonder how frenetic you wish to be on a brief first time visit when celebrating the happy occassion of your wife's birthday is also on the agenda.

The top five sights are Notre Dame, the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, The Arc de Triomphe and Sacre Coeur but, as I'm sure you are aware, there are hundreds of other things to see.

[If I had a better understanding of the pace you want to set, the focus of your interests (are you a more interested in history than in "great art" for example), and how you want to divide your time between sightseeing and leisurely dining and/or nightlife I could devise a proper itinerary for you. Feel free to send me an e-mail if you're interested]

There are, of course, also hundreds of good restaurants in Paris with a very wide range of prices. Being rather a frugal person by nature I shy aware from the famous palace of gastronomy as, except when travelling on an expense account, I can't enjoy a meal that costs 200+ euros a person.

My favorite little restaurant is La Methode at 2 rue Descartes on the 5th arrondissement just a few blocks from the Pantheon. Its a relaxed place, popular with locals but welcoming and tourist friendly.

If you and your wife like museums, have only one of your two days be that. Any good museum in Paris will take most of the day anyway. But if you are not into museums I'd say don't do go to them. You could spend a least a week in Paris and not be bored so you won't run out of activities in a week end.

The eiffel tower, mont martre and the sacre coeur, notre dame, arc de triomphe, a boat tour on the river seine, a bus tour of the city for an over view, the marais, the latin quarter, champs elysees - these are all main attractions.

For museums - the louvre, the rodin museum, musee d'orsay would all be top museums. Again, only go to one if you want to dedicate one full day of your two to it.

Oh what a gorgeous gift for you wife's birthday!

As a totally different thing to do in Paris, I can recommend the Hidden Paris barge cruise - grab some food and wine from local shops and markets and head out for a morning or afternoon with a picnic. I just did this and was totally blown away - such a relaxing wonderful two and a half hours, including a 2km tunnel underneath the Bastille monument - it was surreal and hauntingly beautiful. For dinner, I visited this cute little place twice whilst I was in Paris in June this year - "Le P'tit Manger" - in the 11th arrondissement, 10 mins walk from the Bastille Monument at metro Voltaire - it was so good I wrote it about it too :-)

3 course dinner for 18/19 euro (can't remember exactly), all food fresh and prepared daily, no pre-cooked anything - the owner Joel is a sheer delight and speaks English. Food was excellent, ambience perfect and VERY romantic!

Depends on your location in Paris.

BUT - along the Seine - Eiffle tower - Notre Dame - along the Seine are the museums and if you get off the beaten track and into the side streets LOADS of shops.

Take a map and find the Rue De La Poisson (I think that is how it's spelt) - all along this stretch and beyond are restaurants galore - of all types.

Champs Elysee - all along here are shops and restaurants - not that expensive either. There is masses to see and do.

Theres so much to do in Paris, its a great a beautiful city, good choice. Eiffel tower is a must! and the arc de triumph is just up the road from there (walking distance).
The moulin rouge show is amazing. They have a lot of river cruises down the sein, i've been on a lovely night time one there and you can have a meal, the food was amazing. Hope that helps and you have a great time.

If you're just there for a weekend you should probably stick to the main tourist attractions, make sure you see the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triumphe, that kind of thing. If I were doing it I wouldn't plan a particular restaurant in advance, there will be so many restaurants in the areas near the famous buildings that you could just walk down any street and keep looking at the menus until you picked one you fancied.

O wow. First of all I really hope that you have a good time. WOW

I went last year and I saw many sights. Are you looking to have an action packed, total sight seeing vacation, or a vacation of leisure. There are many things that you can see and do.

You can do a Seine Cruise and see the sights. You can also book a dinner cruise and eat whilst passing by Le Tour Eifel.

There are alot of sights and restaurants to hit. You should really try to eat in the Latin Quarter, especially right off Palce St. Michel. They have great deals on meals and very unique restaurants. There is also a wonderful, and I mean FABULOUS gelato shop called Amorino Gelato that is to die for. You must visit it, it is right on Place St. Michel I believe. You might also want to take her around the Champse Elysee. This is the street in Pairs, filled with designer stores, LV and many others, and great but expensive restaurants.

There are a vast amoutns of hotels you can stay at. I know of a couple.

My Mum went there for her 40th Birthday and she loved it. We booked with a 10* travel agent and I would recomend it to anyone it is called PeterGoordTravel.co.uk look it up and call them they are so helpfull.

I would take her on a dinner cruise on the Seine River, very romantic and you get to see the whole city.

Sacre Coure was one of my favorite places to visit. It is cathedral on top of huge hilltop overlooking part of the city. Also the Arc du Triomphe, if you climb to the top you get a nice 360 view of the city. Have to visit the Jurden du Tuillieries, a beautiful park. If you have time for a museum I would go to the Musee D'Orsay, its organized and the building inside is architectural beautiful not to mention the amazing art.

ahh, who said romance was dead, there's a million and one things to do in Paree, but you must take her for a walk along the west bank, it's very romantic and plenty of resturaunts, have a great weekend and don't do anything that I wouldn't.

Naturally the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre the Champs Elysees/Arch de Triumph are must sees. Second on the list is Notre Dame and the Basilica of the SacrÃ© CÅ“ur on Montmartre which also has a nice view of the city. You can spend a whole day in the Louvre so there isn't much more than this that you can pack into a weekend.

The restaurant in Paris is La Tour D'Argent. If you are going to have one meal in Paris, this is it. Make reservations ASAP. It is quite pricey but I believe they have "cheap" menu where dinner is about $100 a plate, but she's worth it ;-)
