I am visiting Paris in August and will be staying at a hotel in the Montparnasse area - is this a nice area?

Is this area easy to access from Gare du Nord? How long is the journey? Any info and tips greatly appreciated.

Montparnasse is a perfectly nice area and you need have no concerns about safety or its desirability as a tourist location.

From the Gare Montparnass to the Gare du Nord is a 16 minute metro ride.

Montparnasse was known as an area in which artists and intellectuals hung out in the early years of the 20th century. In this regard it is much like its counterpart on the north side of the city, Montmartre.

Paris is wonderful. There are more diversity in different sections of this small city, that you find in most countries.

Montparnasse has it's own character. Originally, and still an artistic area. Do not expect high fashion, cat walk type of a neighborhood.

Lots of explorers, Younger neighborhood. But,

As anywhere in Paris, filled with Bars, Cafe, Restaurants, Clubs, ......

And as anywhere in Paris, it is so easy to get to anywhere else. You will be to/from Gare du Nord, by Metro, in 10 minutes.

That is just the train ride. Because in most days, you will spending another 40 minutes to enjoy all around you, in getting to the train, and off of it.

Have a blast.
