The lourve was my favorite place. That can take all day. The Arc de triumph is awesome. Of course the Eiffel Tower. And they have these cool tour buses where you can sit on the roof while they drive around.
Eat a belguim waffle at a belguim waffle stand.
You have to try the escargot and they make the best steaks. |

Depending on what you are interested in, I would choose to tour either the North of France or the South of France... you wouldn't want to spend your precious time traveling from, say Paris to Nice.
If you choose to tour in the North:
1. Paris- Spending two or three days there will allow you to scratch the surface. Some sites I would recommend in this short amount of time:
a. Notre Dame and Sainte Chapelle
b. Luxembourg Gardens
c. Musee d'Orsay (Impressionist art)
d. Rue Mouffetard
e. If you aren't desperate to see the Mona Lisa (La Joconde) from behind five feet of glass and hundreds of tourists or aren't really interested in Pre-Impressionist art, you may be content just visiting the Louvre to see the architecture on the outside. Most people are more familiar with the Impressionists and therefore, get more out of visiting the Musee d'Orsay.
f. Montmartre
g. the Marais (especially the Place des Vosges!)
If things more off the beaten path are more to your liking, you might enjoy the Rue Cler, the Chapel called St. Germain des Pres, the Musee Jaquemart Andre and the Parc Monceau.
Here are a few options you might want to consider for side trips:
2. From Paris, you can get to the D-Day beaches of Normandy within four hours. I would recommend staying in the little town of Bayeux, where you can find plenty of tours to the different sites. Also visit the Bayeux Tapistry.
3. Chartres is an easy train ride from Paris. It would give you a feel for small town life in France. The famed Cathedral is fabulous.
4. The Loire Valley, with chateaux such as Chambord and Chenonceau would also be an easy trip from Paris. Tours, a town in the Loire Valley, would be a great place to stay.
5. Mont St. Michel. It is overrun with tourists, but this city becomes an island during low tide and is really neat to visit.
If you chose to tour the South of France, Nice makes a good base. There I would recommend:
1. Vieux Nice
2. Making the trip to Cimiez, where there are some neat gardens and such.
From Nice you can easily catch buses and trains to surrounding towns. I personally love:
1. Vence- Visit the Matisse Chapel and the old part of the city.
2. St. Paul de Vence- A walled city with lots of art galleries.
3. A perched village...maybe Eze, which is famous for the "parfumerie."
4. Monaco...Changing of the guards at the palace is crowded but fun to watch.
5. St. Tropez or Cannes have sand beaches...Nice does not!
www.SNCF.fr will help you plan taking the train.
Enjoy! |

I was there in Paris one year ago, to the day today!, and am in travel withdrawal.~sniff~ however, might I suggest that you go everywhere that you possibly can? You will probably not go there again for while, so make your trip worth it. My sister and I had to wait in a line for 3 1/2 hours to go up to the top of the Eiffel Tower (or as the locals say Tour De Eiffel), but it was soooo worth it! Also, I would suggest that you take one of the numerous boat cruises on the Seine River. You can learn alot from the electronic tour guide thing, and it isn't too expensive. We had also alot of fun riding the underground subway thing whose name escapes me....when we were travleling to and from the city. There is too much to see in the Louvre to see much of anything when you are there, but it is free to go into the building, and walk around without actually going into ahy of the exhibits. ~sigh~ want a chaperone?
Anyways, make sure that you bring plenty of money in EUROS with you or at least get it at a bank or something so that you don't have to worry about a service charge to change over your money on top of the exchange rate! Hope that you have a blast on your trip, make sure that you have areally good camera and alot of film or else spare memory cards because you will take alot of pictures! |

I just returned from France and my top 3 places are (in order) 1. The American Cemetary in Normandy ( the most peaceful and beautiful place I have ever seen!) 2. The Louve in Paris ( How can you go to France and not see the Mona Lisa....plan to spend plenty of time there....a couple of hours just wont do....I suggest at least a whole day) and 3. The Effel Tower in Paris ( You must go at night....take the lake cruise too....so pretty!!) |
