How long are you going to be there for altogether? If I were you I would rent a car and travel across Provence. I love the western half of Provence. Here are my top ten:
1. Cassis, by the sea, small and lovely fishing town with great shops and boat trips.
2. L'Isle sur la Sorgue esp on Sundays for its famous antiques market
3. Tarascon which has a medieval castle right on the Rhone
4. Arles which is full of Roman ruins and has a cathedral with cloister
5. St Remy de Provence, wonderful Wednesday food market
6. Les Baux, world heritage site, it's a ruined hilltop village
7. Roussillon, village in the Luberon, set on top of ochre cliffs with lovely walks
8. The Camargue, wild and woolly marshland with horses, bulls and flamingoes (take mozzy repellant)
9. Aix en Provence, wonderful cafe life, cathedral, Mont Sainte Victoire
10,.The pont du Gard, roman viaduct. |

I would not drive if I were you. Parisian driving is an exercise in reflexes, nerves of steel and 'interesting' trajectories, Nice drivers terrorise the Parisians.
You have a train line that goes all along the coast. Either you take the small regional trains and stop at whatever small town you want or you take the TGV and go to Marseille for the day for example. I know that train travel is not an American reflex but in France we have good trains and a dense network that allows travel to everywhere.
You can also take the train to go over the border to Vintimiglia in Italy if you like shopping, there's a huge open market there. Beware, do not buy items with brand names on them as those will be fakes, and the customs guys are on the lookout for shoppers coming back from Vintimiglia.
Monaco is next door! Train again. Or coach.
Take the address of the Tourism office in Nice and once there pick up travel ideas (or even book a day travel).
You have enough interesting things to see around Nice in train or coach distance to make only day-long visits and come home in the evening. If not, book in advance. The Season is starting and as we are all staying in France to cut down on our expenses the best cheap hotels will fill up very quickly.
Have a nice trip in France |

I remember driving to Nice from Italy. I think it is near Cannes and also Monaco. There are casinos there and of course, nice beaches. All of that area is lovely. Travel over to Italy! |

Oh lucky you. I would be using public transport saves the hassles of driving around places your not familiar with. You really get to pay more attention to the scenery if your not driving. This site will give you the top 10 things to see and do. |
