you'll be fine, if you stick to blended / straight forward type of life.
Supermarkets, ATM... will make it easy for you.
I know quite a few brits and US who live in Paris, been there for years and still cannot align 2 French words together. It works fine.
There is a community newspaper in English that gives all sorts of info and tips. the US restaurants in Les halles usually carry copies.
Having said that, you will miss a lot of fun and discovery if you do not speak French. so get a few lessons brefore you go and try to learn as much as you can. people will really appreciate the effort! |

So long as your job does not require you to speak French then, frankly, you could live there the rest of your life and not have to learn a single word of French.
It would certainly be limiting and you'd be better off if you learned the language but Paris is an international city and therefore a substantial part of the population speaks English including almost everyone who is in a business where interaction with foreigners is common.
A poll taken by a French newspaper confirmed that the majority of the French understand at least a little English. Only 34% say they do not understand it at all while almost a third say they are either fluent or understand and speak it very well. |

I would suggest at least learning the basics. The French do not appreciate you coming to their country without taking the time and effort to at least learn a little bit of the french language. It will be difficult without learning any. If you aren't going to try to take a class or anything, at least make sure you carry around a pocket dictionary. It is very hard to try and communicate with the French without it. |
