I have an opportunity to go to France!?

Ok so i talked to my parents and now have the opportunity to go to France for the summer and live with my uncle. If i were to go i would live in Bordeaux because that's where my uncle lives. I was just wondering if you guys think it would be a good experience? I don't know any french so i was hoping i could learn a little here before i go then go there and become somewhat fluent. I also wanted to know if Bordeaux is a nice spot to visit? Thanks!

P.S. I'm 16 if that makes any difference.

It's an amazing experience! France is beautiful! Make sure you bring a camera! Bordeaux is lovely, nice and sunny in summer, it's one of the nicest towns in France so you're lucky to have a relative there! The wine festival is from the 26th to the 29th of June, Bordeaux is wine city after all lol. And you'll be allowed to taste, I doubt they'll even ask your age... The town is gorgeous too, fantastic architecture. You should ask your uncle to take you sailing on the river.

It would be a good idea to learn a bit of french before you leave, at least some common sentences. "Bonjour, comment ça va?" etc... There's one thing that annoys us frenchies, english speakers who don't make a single effort to speak the language... But it is a big town, so most will speak english.

Just to make sure you know, in France we kiss on the cheek to say hello, not actual kissing, you bump your cheek against the cheek of other women and shake hands with the men. It's impolite to just say "bonjour".

Alors bonnes vacances et amuse toi bien chez ton oncle à Bordeaux!

What a fabulous opportunity to experience another culture and different life for a short time! Travel can be so expensive so to have a place to stay would be great. Go for it!

Study the French language now and hard! If possible try to learn from a tutor who is a native speaker of French. If you cannot afford a tutor or can't find one, try to take classes at your local Alliance Francaise. Some colleges offer French classes at night (and many don't require you to be a college student to take those classes).
