As said previously, we celebrate on December 24th. We tend to eat very nice things while saving ourselves for the big day as we will be pigging out!!
Because Christmas day is spent with the family, le reveillon can be spent with friends.

"Le réveillon" can be either "Le réveillon de la nuit de Noël" (Christmas Eve) or "Le réveillon de la Saint Sylvestre" (New Year's Eve). In France, the special Christmas meal is usually held on Christmas Eve. Typically special treats might include champagne, foie gras and oysters. Similarly, New Year is often celebrated with a meal or party on New Year's Eve, and again champagne is a popular treat.

The dates and names above are spot on, and some of the ingredients. In addition you know should the meal often consists of 10+ courses and on Christmas eve it traditionally takes place (the meal) after midnight mass. Restaurants are frequently booked out for the evening and many do not close their doors until the last customers have left at around 4AM.

First of all you have to know there are indeed two REVEILLONS in France, one on Christmas Eve and on on New Year's Eve.
Most people are going to their families for Christmas Eve. It's a very long and fat dinner.
Usual dishes are : foie gras, oisters, turkey, salmon ...

Then depending on kids, whether they still believe in "Père Noël" or not, we might open the presents after dinner.

Traditional desert is "Bûche de Noël".

You should try to google these key words, I bet you'll find pictures or descriptions : bûche de Noël, réveillon, dinde de Noël, dinde aux marrons, foie gras...
