I stayed in France for a month a few years back (I was veggie at the time) and it was so hard. Getting anything to eat veggie is a real chore as they just don't cater for people who don't eat meat. The family I was with kept trying to serve me rabbit and octopus etc and even fed me meat secretly in a spring roll saying my body needed it! I managed to get by and I'm sure your friend will too but tell him/her to be prepared not to get anything too fancy. One place that did nice salads was McDonald's over there so if the worst comes to the worst - go there! |

I went there with my wife two years ago for two weeks and we are both vegan. Since we had no kitchen where we were staying we depended entirely on eating out which is pretty limited in France (they like lots of rich, creamy foods). But we had pastas, oriental, falafels, etc, and nobody cared at all.
And if you can get a place with a kitchenette like we definately will next time...no problem! There are fresh produce markets EVERYWHERE and you can make whatever your heart desires.
However, we saw NO specialty vegan food like Mornigstar or Yves or anything like that so you might mail yourself a package before your flight if you want lunch meats, ground meats or anything of the sort. |

Paul T gave a good advice - try to find a place, where you can cook yourself. France has a great choice of fresh produce.
If you don't want to cook during vacation and if your friend eats cheese, then being there shouldn't be a problem - you can easily survive (i would say you will enjoy) eating mostly salads, cheese, bread and pastry. |

Come to Italy! Italian food lends itself to the vegetarian life style!
I reckon vegetarians do better here than almost anywhere else in the world! |

Not to worry. A pretentious person who likes to lord their worldview over others will fit right in. France has overly rich, overly complicated, and overpriced food to annoy any dietary preference. If you or your friend is female, however, be sure to pack a burqa. |

Do you know that we have an excellent and cheap veggie restaurant in Paris ? |

If you're worried tell her to say she's on a diet... If she's not the closed minded sort she should be able to find things to eat- just not to expect to not have to be near meat at all... (I've known some who won't eat at the same table with someone eating meat!) |
