Ideas for a HONEYMOON in FRANCE? |
We are thinking of spending our honeymoon in France in July but we can not decide which part is best to have a great time, Paris or a French beach???
I heard that Paris is fabulous but I also heard that the French beaches along the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean and the English Channel are all amazing!!
We are going to spend 7-10 days, so maybe it's best to visit Paris for 3 days and spend the rest of our honeymoon in a beach place??? Please let us know your experience and which coast is the warmest and most pleasant in France? Additional Details Thank you for your suggestions.. Actually my fiance prefers quiet beaches to cities, but we still wanna see Paris.. That's why we are thinking of spending only 3 days in Paris and the rest in a nice beach with wide green landscape around.. In one of our trips, we enjoyed so much Tossa De Mar in Barcelona/Spain, and we are trying to find such a quiet and charming beach in France.. Any more suggestions? And please advise us how to travel from Paris to any of the coast cities? Should we book flights or we can take the train?
Thank you very much :-) we spent a happy time reading your answers |

First off, congratulations on your impending marriage.
Second, you have made an excellant choice in deciding to honeymoon in Paris. We chose Paris for our honeymoon over 30 years ago and are still going strong. May you have the same experience.
Now, to answer your question more directly, I suggest you just stay in Paris. It is a marvelous and unique city.
The French beaches are quite nice but, apart from hearing people speak French and some differences in the available cuisine, there really isn't all that much difference from a beach anywhere. If you're going to the trouble and expense of traveling to Paris then focus on Paris.
There are a lot of nice, cozy, romantic little hotels in Paris. Here's one that I like: http://www.paris-paris.com/hotel_left-bank_saint-germain.php
Settle in and, apart from the usual sightseeing, pick any one of the local cafes and become "regulars" there. Here's one right around the corner from the hotel I suggested. http://www.paris-zoom.com/place.asp?P=Le+Conti&H=video#VIDEO I stop here almost every day I'm in Paris. (The owner has an adorable dog who wanders the place freely...which is typical of Paris) After a couple of viists you'll be greeted like a member of the family.
Likewise, find a convivial bar or music venue, perhaps a restaurant (although it might be better to sample the incredible variety available) and make them your own. ( Here's restaurant reccomendation while I'm at it: http://www.paris-zoom.com/place.asp?P=Le+Nemrod&H=video#VIDEO )
Don't just be a tourist but become part of the city. |

The Med is really beautiful and it was the first time that I saw a blue ocean (usually looks green). Nice is much less hectic than Paris yet there are still plenty of museums and shops and the beach of course. If you want to see Brittany, that can be fun too. A week or so isn't a whole lot of time so I would pick Paris and one other region in order to avoid spending too much time on a bus or train. |

Congratulations on your wedding :D
I think Paris would not be a good spot to stay for a honeymoon. If you like quiet places, I suggest you Bretagne( I think it's Brittany in English), I've been there a lot during holidays (I live in France) and it has lovely landscapes.
, even though the sea isn't as hot as the Méditerranean one, or some French Island (Corse which would be the warmest spot I think, Oléron, Ré...).
The problem with the mediterranée, is that it's really crowded!
So, my suggestions are :
Oléron Island, you can go by train from Paris to La Rochelle, or by plane from Paris to the Rochelle-ile de Ré airport : http://www.oleron-story.com/oleron-images/plages-ile-oleron.jpg
The "Cote d'Emeraude" in Bretagne

These are romantic spots ;) Have a nice trip! |

why not hire a house boat or canal boat in paris and use it as a hotel for the first few days and then sail down the inland waterways in it. This is what we wish to do for our honeymoon but I haven't found a coompany that hires boats in paris yet, so if you hear of one please let me know. |
