***When making international calls to Canada it is necessary to dial TWO ZEROS FIRST - *THEN* DIAL ONE, then the area code, then the local phone number

00 + 1 + (area code) + (local phone number).

example: so, say you're calling someone in London, Ontario, Canada, and their phone number is 1-519-555-6262.

You'd need to dial: 00-1-519-555-6262.

area codes for Canada:

Alberta: 403
Alberta (north): 780
British Columbia: 250
British Columbia (Lower Mainland): 604
British Columbia (Vancouver): 778
Inuvik: 867
Manitoba: 204
New Brunswick: 506
Newfoundland: 709
North West Territories: 867
Nova Scotia: 902
Ontario (London): 519
Ontario (Metro Toronto): 647
Ontario (North Bay): 705
Ontario (Ottawa): 613
Ontario (Thunder Bay): 807
Ontario (Toronto Metro): 416
Ontario (Toronto Vicinity): 905
Prince Edward Island: 902
Québec (Montréal): 514 or 438
Québec (Quebec City): 418
Québec (Sherbrooke): 819
Saskatchewan: 306
Yukon: 867

If you are dialing from a cellphone, then you can add a + to the beginning of the number and it should work (add + by pressing the * key twice rapidly): +15195556262.
If you are dailing from a fixed phone, then you need to add the international access code, which in France is 00: 0015195556262
US and Canadian numbers are unique in that the "1" long distance code is the same as the country code, so the number stays the same when dialled from abroad, except for needing the international access code.

Xabier
you shouldn't write numbers xD

to call from the EU to the Americas is VERY expesnive... I'd get a calling card but it would be

00 15 19 55 56 26 2

The area code for America is 001 or +1

Buy a long distance phone card from a convenience store, make sure you know how to say it in French. Make sure you let them know what country you're calling, or say you're calling North America, and it shouldn't be a problem. You dial 00-1-and then the number.

It's weird you use the area code 519. Live in Ontario by any chance?

Maybe Guelph, Kitchener, Cambridge?

That question is like a French person saying "I'm going to the US, how do I call Mexico?" Here, you use a phone card. You probably do the same in France.

You add 01, then the area code, then the actual phone number.

Get on your roof and yell, "CANADA!"

Carlos M
You should use

COUNTRY CODE + CITY CODE + Phone Number

It seems that you already have all numbers:
1 to Canada
519 for Ontario
555 6262...seeems to be the phone number,

so try to type these number in a home telephone in France.
To call collect, it is other way...

I Think you better, call France Télécom information service.
They should have English translation, if you are unable to speak French.

~NYCity!~
country code- area code- number

Jae
Ask a french person.

1-519-555-6262 work

Call an operator to transfer you, or if there are plusses in front of some numbers, press one. It might help if you use a cell phone, because I don't think you need to pay long distance fees on them. Correct me if I'm wrong though.
