The first thing to do would be to buy a visitors pass and that gives you FREE transport and entry into most main attractions in Paris and also allows you a boat trip on the Seine or going up the Montparnasse Tower. It also allows you to jump queues in Museums.
At the moment an adult pass for two days is €86.00, a teenager €43. You can see all the details and the main things to visit on this site:
http://www.parispass.com/
The Ile de la cité in the middle of the Seine, and all that area are MUST sees, with Notre-Dame, the stunning Sainte-Chapelle with its medieval windows all intact, the picturesque Marché aux fleurs, the Hotel-Dieu (oldest hospital in Paris) and the Conciergerie where Queen Marie-Antoinette was kept prisoner. The Louvre palace is just across the river and is one of the best museums and art galleries in the world. The Musée d'Orsay, with its famous impressionist paintings and sculptures by Degas, in a converted 19th century railway station, is also a must.
The palace at Versailles on the outskirts of Paris is one of the world's wonders, free with the pass, but would take the larger part of a day.
To stay, the best deal would be a youth hostel but some of these also accomodate adults in private rooms, are clean and comfortable and offer reasonable meals at moderate prices.
The best two are Centre Maurice Ravel and FIAP Jean Monnet

If a small hotel would be preferred, then look at this site and its prices:
http://www.paris35.com/hostels/
A substantial breakfast in one of the youth centers would be around 5 euros but you could also get it in a café for between 5 and 10 euros.
You can get a 'walking lunch' from one of Paris' many food stands, a panino in the centre of the city, or a crèpe from a crèpe stand. Many patisseries sell inexpensive coffee and sandwiches. All these are cheap (about the same as breakfast), easy, and allow you to maximize your sightseeing and walking time. For dinner, best pick a 20-to-40-Euro prix-fixe menu. This will get you 3 or 4 courses, possibly with drinks. Service and VAT are included by law. There even are some Mc Donald's in Paris and they do not just sell classic Big Mac's!
http://www.qype.co.uk/search/find?qype_query=Mc+Donald%27s+&locator=Paris&Search=%3CSPAN%3ESearch%3C%2FSPAN%3E
Young people enjoy a trip to the Père Lachaise Cemetary, or down the Paris Catacombs (which by the way are close to FIAP Jean Monnet). The entry into Notre-Dame cathedral is free and there are some picturesque flea markets in several places. You can wander in several fantastic gardens free or on the banks of the Seine.
All this would leave you enough money to buy souvenirs or off the peg clothing on your third day.
I have done all this for 300 Euros, so with 500 you can really do a lot, depending on what you like.
For more general information about Paris look at the wikitravel site and you will not even have to include the expense of a guide book in your budget. |

tour bus is a good start takes you around the main attractions, costs under 20 euro maybe less. u can go to notre damn for free, some hotels offer free tickets to the louvre, so u can check that, even without u can get into the louvre for around 10 euro ,and there is shops and stuff there too, u can go up to eiffel tower for about 12 euro, theres is loads of lovely churchs for free, there is boat rides on the seine for about 10 euro which a lovely thing to do in the evening, and of course theres the champs elysee which is a lovely street to walk around which has loads of shops to look at , the arc de triomph is here too, and tickets are around the 10 euro, the hop on off bus tour takes u to all these places too, so u cud def get about on 500 euros |
