There is, of course. You will find that most top level positions in industry are still held down by men, and this is also evident in other sectors of French society. Equality is a big word in France, but unfortunately, only that. You will find though that women are occupying the work force just as much as men, just not as high up. There is huge professionalism in France among women, as well. In terms of age, you will find that it is perfectly all right for older people to hang out in the same establishments as the young. French seniors are relatively young at hart and connect well to youth culture in comparison to the more Anglosaxon- or Germanic worlds, and the young respect them a tad more there, too.
