In France, what is the message on the traffic lights? |
An odd question I know. But on the their traffic lights, what's the message for the pedestrians. Sort of the equivalent of 'don't walk' or 'please wait'? I don't want the translation of those phrases, I just want to know what that French phrase is, its really bugging me!

I haven't seen any message on a traffic light in France ever. We have sometimes recordings for blind people "le feu piéton est vert" or "le feu piéton est rouge" but nothing written. |

We usually just have a green picture of a guy walking when it's green, and a picture of a guy standing when it's red. I've lived here all my life, no recollection of "don't walk" or "please wait" written equivalents, sorry! |

It is rare when there are word messages for pedestrians in France. Usually it is a lit picture of a person walking (in green) or a red one standing, as these are understandable by everybody, whatever their nationality or their age, but words may be more frequent elsewhere in other French speaking countries. In Quebec for instance it is a red hand for "don't walk".
