Tipping is not customary and you should not feel obligated to tip. They include tip in the price. I have never heard of anyone tipping nor have I or any of my friends or family ever tipped at a restaurant in France. |

If the menu or bill say "servis compris" then service is included and you needn't pay more. Otherwise a tip is expected between 10%-15% depending upon the type of establishment. The exceptions are bars and fast food places. |

Yes it is!! I worked in several bars and restaurants in Paris and it used to drive us all crazy when we were not tipped.
A lot of guide books will tell you that it is not but this is untrue-about 10% is normal in a restaurant but more if the effort is made. In a bar at least leave the small change on the little plastic tray and if you are being served for a while leave about 10%. |
