Interesting places to visit while in Paris in 2 days?

Oh 2 days is so not enough! Any hotel will do as long as a metro is nearby. All the major attractions have a metro closeby. The following is what I suggest visiting and there all pretty much in the same vincinty:

Louvre
Musuee D'Orsay
Arc du Triumpe
Eiffle Tower
Seine River (Take the night cruise)
Notre Dame
Sacre Coure (Not near anything but a must to visit, a huge cathedral on top of a hill with a incredible view)
Jurden du Tuillieries (huge park)

If you have limited time in Paris and want to see all the wonderful sites, a great way to to do it is on the hop-on, hop-off bus tours, called Lâ€™Open Tour. The cost is $29 euros for one day but a better deal for $32 for two days. You can buy tickets directly from the driver but you can also buy them in kiosk, see them listed on the web site.
The tour comprises of four separate circuits and you can visit all the famous sites along the way. A route takes approx. two and a half hours and has frequent stops along the way, where you can get off, visit a site, then get back on the next bus that passes by. The longest wait we had was around 15 minutes but we had just missed a bus.

There also the the Batobus tours, operating on the Seine which gives you a different look at the city from the water. www.batobus.com

I agree with Nickie on this one - L'Open Tour is a safe bet for a first-timer. You can get on and off when and where you like, so if you "kiffe" an area, you can go explore on foot or on one of those trendy "velib" you can rent for a few hours really cheaply http://www.velib.paris.fr/
Paris is a feast for the eyes - just being there, SEEING it will be enough, never mind actually riding an Eiffel Tower elevator or entering a museum.

St Germain des Pres -Notre-Dame-Jardin du Luxembourg walk

Duhhh - the Champs-de-Mars - Eiffel Tower - Trocadero walk
A nice drink at a cafe terrasse watching the world go by - priceless!

In General, south of the river is best....hotels around Monparnasse are cheaper and still a good location, try denfert-rochereau as this is on the same RER train link to the airport.
Also, save money on climbing the Eiffel Tower by elevator to the top of Monparnasse Tower where you can see all of Paris and have the Eiffel Tower in the background of your pix...

For a fantastic and truly typical French meal look no further than le pot de terre. For 15euros you get the best 3 course meal in Paris and a wonderful dining experience as if you where in the French countryside. www.lepotdeterre.com

You can try hotels in the Gare de Nord area. Not a good area but at least they are cheap. You can go to the Louvre , the Picasso museum or the museum D'orsey. You can go to Pigalle to the Moulin Rouge ( which is expensive) or enjoy one of the nightclubs. There are a lot of beautiful churches like Sacre Coeur, Madeline, or Notre Dame that you might like and which are all free. Don't forget to visit Place Du tetre when u are in Monmatre where u can look at the paintings but you don't have to buy anything. You can hang out in the Latin Quarter and enjoy some french cuisine and afterwards check out the free breakdancing in front of the Fountain St. Michel. You might also like the many great free gardens like Jardin de Luxembourg or Tulieres or Vosges. Have fun.

Skip versailles and see either Vaux le vicompte or fontainbleau. Versaiilles is just too huge and touristy, vaus and fountainbleau are gorgeous, have interesting history and you can take it all in in a day. Fountainbleau is abeautiful little town, too.

Skip the louvre and see muse d'orsay. Again, the louvre is just too big if you only have a day or two, and d'orsay hass all the immpressionist stuff that is a must see at least once in your life. THe mona lisa is dissappointing, van gough is eye opening.

Don't bother going to the top of the eiffel tower. THe best view is from the top of the arch de triopmphe, from which you can see the eiffel tower.

I agree with tee2's recommendations. As far as a hotel, I would suggest you check out www.hotelresidencedupalais.com. It's located next to Luxembourg Gardens, and within a few minutes walk of Notre Dame. I paid 53 euros a night for a room with a double bed and a shower in the room. It also has free breakfast and an elevator, and the guy who runs the place speaks very good English and is extremely helpful. I hope you enjoy Paris, and don't forget to get a Museum Pass!
