Is 14 days Paris too long? Is there gonna be enough stuff to do? |
I'm considering a trip to Europe to visit family and am trying to plan things out. At the moment, I'm scheduled for about 14 days in Paris. I have some friends that I'll meet at Paris for the duration of my stay there.
Is 14 days too long to stay in Paris?
Are there other cities in France I should consider visiting for day trips or longer?
Thanks |

Honey, as far as I'm considered, that's not enough time! Paris has a lot to see, do and experience. I travel there each year for 10 days and can't get everything done.
There's the Louvre, Musee d'Orsay, Rodin Museum, Picasso Museum, Napoleon's Tomb at Invalides and War Museum, Pompidou Center, Moulin Rouge, Montmartre, Notre Dame Cathedral, Sacre-Couer Basilica, Pigalle, the Erotic Museum, Pere Lachaise Cemetery, the Conciergerie, the Seine River, the food, the Eiffel Tower, Sainte-Chapelle, Luxembourg Gardens, the Pantheon, Sorbonne, Montmartre Cemetery, Arc de Triomphe, Champs-Elysees, Grand Arche at La Defense, Galeries Lafayette, the Opera, Musee de Cluny, Cite des Sciences et de l'Industrie, Carnavalet Museum, Place de la Concorde, the bridges, the Sewer Tour, the Catacombs, Tuileries Gardens, St. Sulpice, the Da Vinci Code...and the list goes on.
There are several day trips that you could take...just to see some different sites. I would recommend visiting Cityrama or Paris Vision to see what they have to offer. I've visited Versailles, Mont-Saint-Michel, Normandy and the Loire Valley...all were fantastic. There's also Chantilly and Fontainebleau. If you want to venture further afield, there's also London and Bruges, Belgium.
Since you have two weeks to spend in Paris...you don't have to rush around to see everything. Take it slow. Stroll along the Seine River. Take a boat ride at dusk. Take a nocturnal photo safari. |

From my point of view a whole life will not be enough to stay in Paris, but now I'm serious and I want to tell you that a week will be enough to see the "must see" places in Paris and the other week you can spend to do some trips from Paris to:The castles of Loire's valley, The Fontainebleau Palace, Reims and the Champagne region, the Mont St. Michel and a part of Normandie and, of course a whole day for Eurodisney Park. There are many wonderful places to see in France and, if you change your plan and you think I can help you, writte and I'll be glad to be helpful. |

It's probably too long in Paris itself but there is tonnes to see in France generally. You could pretty comprehensively cover the city in say 5 days.
Lots of places aren't too far from Paris and can be done in a day (eg Champagne region, Normandy beaches). You'll probably need at least overnight trips to get down to places like Lyon and Burgundy which are both great.
Paris also not to far by train from somewhere like Brussels so you could always pop over there for a couple of days as well. |

There is lots to do in Paris but in my experience 4 days is enough but good news the train system in France is the best in Europe you can travel to marseille and enjoy the sunshine or head north to lille or the belguim border and visit the many war memorials or head east towards Spain. If you enjoy museums Paris will rock your socks. I have been there 4 times and never been to the eiffel tower or the arc de triomphe so there is deffinetly lots to do in Paris. |

yes that's too long...get a rail pass and go "country-hopping" (like bar-hopping, only with different countries) I did that back in May and it was an amazing experience! |

Just made the mistake of going back on my computer and lost a very long answer.
So to be brief.
Two weeks is a nice introduction to Paris. You can see Paris or you can start to get to know Paris.
I have spent many weeks there and always look forward to going back. So in my experience, two weeks is great, and you will be back for more.
Most guide books point out the highlights but try not to get into checking things off...that is not Paris.
Get up in the morning, whenever that is, see how you feel.
Have some coffee and Croisants at a local outdoor bistro.
Watch the world go by. Enjoy the coffee, enjoy the croisant, enjoy the view of the people, enjoy the beautiful waitstaff, enjoy the view, think about what you feel like doing after breakfast. Take the bus instead of the metro.
Walk around the museum or the park or the garden or the neighborhood. Take it all in. Then walk to a nearby bistro and have a coffee or glass of wine and sit, and watch, and listen, and think about what you have just seen.
Go home and take a nap.
Have dinner with friend for 3 or 4 hours, walk around some more. Sleep well.
Try to know or learn the basic phrases. Study a map.
This is not an amusement park it is a vibrant and exciting city.
Don't gyp yourself and just see the city. Take your time and get to feel the city, knowing you are going to be back and see some more next time.
The first time you see Paris is always the next time.
I hope you have a wonder-filled time |

14 days is a good start for Paris... especially with a day trip or two thrown in just for variety... a day in Orlean, a day in Chartre, a day in Reims,a day at Versaille, a day in Epernay.... both weekends at Clignacourt, a couple of days in the Louvre... you won't run out of stuff to do! |

Paris is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. There are many objectives to see. I think 14 days is too long, but you can go and visit the surroundings of Paris. I'm sure you would find interesting place to see. Enjoy your vacation!

OMG! people!!! I lived in Paris for a year! I walked everyday and got to see all little streets and different museums. I am half french so I had to have the whole french experience. 14 days is great! so that you know they say that you need a whole yr to get to know the louvre, so all of those people who said 3-4 days please!! ignorants! its a gorgeous city. Go to the opera, walk on all the streets, visit the museums and all the most important churches, sit down and enjoy wathching the poeple walk while drinking coffe (very french thing to do) Please dont stay all the time in champs, when I lived there I was in montparnesse, beautiful, it is the 6 a, the 6 and the 5 are the student areas, there is the park of luximburgo (it is a castle with its beautiful gardens where people go running, play tennis, or sit aroung to have luch) right in the middle of both areas, real nice to visit and it has a smll museum, usually with special exhibitions, have to go. The 4 is so gorgeous too very artistic, is where all the jazz is. You have to go to visit versailles!!! it is a day trip, it is outside the town...you should also have some day travels. Oh I love France! there are also a lot of clubs to go to, depends on the ambience that you are looking for is the area that you should visit at night, as I was saying the 5th is full of students so it is fun. There are lot of cool bars and some clubs at the opera, it is an area. It is the gay area! jajaja but it is sooo much fun, you see a lot of straight people do not worry. hmmm you should also visit the old opera omg it is gorgeous close by is the madelaine chapel, very pretty! ohhh and dont forget the shooping, european clothes are much cheaper than here n so nice. Go to Zara, Mango and speacially to h&m, sooo cool and cheap! like have no idea! you should also visit la fayette its a big departmental store it is very expensive but oh so beautiful you have to go and see it! i can keep going and going on things to do. If you have any qs, email me I will glad to help! also depending on your budget i can tell u where to shop or eat |

It depends on who you're with, how old you are, and how much you enjoy museums and ****. I've been to Paris a few times, and it's a neat city, but as a 28 year old male Texan, I'd be bored to death after 3 or 4 days. Again, though, it depends on you and your circumstances. If I were you, I'd take some of those 14 days and check out Amsterdam, or Luxembourg. You could always take the Chunnel over to England, if the mood strikes. There's a cool place in France called Mt. St. Michelle(of course it's spelled different in french) where there's a cool old fort and walled city...it's worth a day or 2. If you like exotic dancing, The Crazy Horse is pretty cool. Unfortunately, when I was in Paris a couple summers back, parts of it were overrun by former-colonial riff-raff...human pollutants, as far as I'm concerned. Hope this has been helpful. Good luck ! |

What beautiful answers people have given !
I live in Marseilles .. thats the southern Mediterranean Port and I think THATS a city worth only one week ! the surroundings are GORGEOUS of course.
Paris is exactly what the people have told you... and I agree that a lifetime could be spent discovering all the great things.. .and then it depends on your tastes and interests as well. But just the city in itself is beautiful and you must take your time and chosse neighborhood by neighborhood what you want to do and where you want to go.
I hope to have been helpful and I hope you have a wonderful trip!
Susan
oh yeah .... a fabulous place to visit outside of Paris is Monets house and gardens....Giverny .....ahhhh magical beauty guaranteed ! |
