Is Danielle Darrieux A Legend In France? |
I'm a film student and I have recently taken a big interest in the french actress Danielle Darriuex. Is she highly regarded in her home country of France? Has she been bestowed with the Legion Of Honour award? Can anyone provide some information? Thank you! |

Yes, Danielle Darrieux is still very famous in France. Maybe not for young generations. I think she is almost 90 years old right now and she is still very beautiful , very natural ( no lifting...) . She had to be on stage those days for a theatral adaptation of an american moovie ( played by H.Fonda and K.Hepburn ) called " La maison du lac" ( I forgot the american title) but during a rehersal, she felt and broke one leg and one shoulder . She is enable to play and just has been replaced by another actress. One of her more recent moovie is " Huit femmes" that I recommend to you if you have already not seen it.

She was very famous in her time - before the real EXPLOSION of Brigitte Bardot, Martine Carol, in the early fifties - she was, in her time, considered as THE woman, splendid, glamorous etc etc ( want some more ? ) -
BUT as a real bunch of people at that time, her attitude toward Germans, just as Jean Gabin, Edith Piaf ( yes Edith Piaf ) was not clear and she was among the artists during the occupation who went to Berlin by train ( pullmann train - not the ones for deportation ) to represent France such as germans wanted it to be - All this finished for Germans in NĂĽrnberg and some of them, in my opinion too few, were hung-
