France is good- and great fun to go in the big 'Hyper-Marche's'
And whilst your there you can get great food as well at good prices. Somewhere a little closer to home though- channel islands - they are VAT free remember!! (quite pricey to get there though but worth it)
If you really want a deal on your duty free- go to spain. It's half the price.

BackMan
The best place to get duty free, believe it or not is in the Arab States where alcohol is OK for Westerners.... the reason being, they have lower " overheads" electricity, rent and wages are minimal so a bottle of Scotch costs only £6.00 !! ........If you buy "Duty free" in Manchester Airport for example, rent is expensive. wages too and heating/electricity.so when I was in Dubai it was cheaper there! Only drawback is you need a "Drinks Card" not available for tourists but you might to get to know someone

busted
yes but they have caught on. belgium is cheaper. be prepared to explain exactly who the stuff is for. if you buy for other people they can confenscate it.

Chris S
There is no such thing as duty free for the european traveller anymore, you pay the tax of the country you are in. Duty free is only available to those travelling from or to non EU countries and the old limits apply, ie 200 ciggies or 250 grammes of tobacco and 1 litre of spirits etc.
However the tax levels for these things are lower in Belgium, France or Germany and you can bring as much as you like into the UK providing the C+E cannot prove it's not for your own use.
They do give guideline amounts, but these are just 'guidelines'.

alan
There is no duty free now but beer and spirits are a lot cheaper than UK. Tobacco is cheaper in Belgium

If the goods are for own use they are quite reasonable,if on the other hand you are out to make a few quid, which of course you are not. There is not enough profit unless you live close to the channel ports and can do a few trips a day.

James c
no. french products are poor quality. Due to new world producers improving techniques french wines, spirits and food products are poor compared to the rest of the world but they have not put their prices down. Go to germany or belgium were the quality is better

nonconformiststraightguy
No, At airports you pay top prices.

Gary M
not really, they have 'hypermarkets' where it is cheaper but once you factor in what you spent going to get the beer its not worth it. however smokes are a good thing to buy, you can sell them here for a lot more than what you paid.
