Is Novotel La Defense a good place to stay in Paris?

I am planing to visit Paris in July and thinking of staying at Novotel La Defense for 3 nights. Its location seems very convenient since it is on Metro Line 1 which can take me to The Louvre and Gare De Lyon without changing. Room rates are also reasonable.

Any thoughts, comments, suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hello-Paris
Yes it's easy to be on the line 1.

But you have to know that La Défense is an area with only offices and buildings.
So you can't do anything in the evening around your hotel, and it won't be very attractive to come back to your hotel at night.
This hotel is more convenient for people who have to work in La Défense, than for tourists.

It's better to be in Paris center, according to me.
There are other Novotel more in the center like the one in Chatelet.

quite good yes

Goldie
Yes, I stayed there a few weeks ago. The hotel is a good one, comfy, good service, although the breakfast rate is a bit much.

The area is deserted at weekends and nights, as well as vey dark during night, but its very near the metro station. A two minute walk. With regards to closeness to sites, etc, its a good location.

BTW if you go the other way, one stop to La Defense, there is a huge shopping centre there.

I requested a room with a view of the Eiffel Tower, which I got.

I recommend it, would go back. But I did only use the hotel for sleeping, so nothing being in the local area didn't bother me.

Le defense is a business district. In the nigth there is nothing, but in 10mn with the subway you are on Champs-Elysees. So if the rates are reasonable, go ahead!

Pascalou
La Defense is the business distric for Paris.
It's crowded in the week days from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM but almost empty in the night time and week-ends!
May be also a dangerous place after dark !
