I enjoyed living there for 3 years although with small children it is tough - kids need room to run and a Paris apartment is not the best place to do that.

I loved the museums, efficient public transportation, and the ability to get around France and the rest of Europe relatively quickly.

It's a big city and I prefer the suburbs - having a yard and all that. I did mind stepping over (and occasionally in) dog crap. Many people do not pick up after their dogs and expect the sanitation department to take care of it.

However, I am sick of Americans (who have never set foot in Paris) saying how the French are hostile to Americans. It's just flat untrue. I found that especially right around the time of the start of the Iraq war it was Americans that were (and many still are) hostile to the French people they meet.

It's a big city so, you have to be ok with the urban lifestyle. Not everyone is. Also, you should really know French, they get uppity when you don't know it or speak it improperly.

By observing the news it would sound to me that France as a whole is probably a very unstable place to live at this point in time. They have very strange society and don't appear to like or get along well with other nations.

It's funny, actually. The Parisians are not rude to Americans. Well, yeah, they are, but it's not an American thing. They are rude to everyone, including eachother. They are no nonsense straight forward people. It is a big city, so if you're not used to living amongst a lot of people, you will need some time to adjust.

Yes, we go there for about a month every year in an apartment we own. No, the french aren't rude to Americans, they're rude to the slovenly Americans who walk around with pants so low that they don't cover up anything they're supposed to, and they make fun of the family tourist groups that carry big backpacks, those things you wrap around your waist, and big water bottles. The food is great, and almost anyone on the street will know enough English to help you get where you want go be, as long as you ask nicely. It's great just to walk around, and you get exercise. It's really a beautiful city, and my favorite place to be.

Paris France is a nice place to live, depends on what your interests are. Recently, there has been strong criticism on Government Legislations which will allow business to fire employees who are less than 26 years (or so). Therefore if you are in that age bracket and looking to seek employment, then you may not want to join the fun there (sacrcastically speaking). Rest is fine, and its a great place to view historical places and live in the vicinity of wonderful places. Make sure you know French, or if not, then plan to learn the basics. Good Luck.

If you know French and can manage people well. Then YES
If you don't know French, perhaps it would be tough to cope up. French, I say would be a must if you are planning to reside there for a while.

It's a great city, so much to do and see. Very cosmopolitan and ALWAYS something new and exciting happening. Je sais parler courrament français... but lots of people speak English there so it is easy to get by if you don't know much French. The downside is the cost. It can be very very expensive (rent, food, transport... just the general cost of living!)
