Is Paris the most beautiful city in the world or yet another traffic-filled dump of rude, selfish people? |
I've been there many times, on my hitch-hiking travels thru Europe, and the French hate it too! But is that just because everyone hates their own backyard?? What do *you* think? How do *you* feel? |

Paris is both.
When you live in or near Paris, you generally both hate it and love it.
I do.
I hate the trafic, especially the guys that park their SUV anywhere, the agressive and selfish behaviours of some parisians, the tramps that pee everywhere, the dog owners, the arrogant youths from the "banlieues", the constant works on buildings and streets.
But when I roam the quays of the Seine on a warm Summer night with my tripod and camera, looking for sights, I really enjoy Paris and I feel I am surrounded by people feeling the same way and having a great time. Night hides the ugliest aspects of the city, leaving only gorgeous buildings beautifully lit and reflected on the Seine which is covered by boats full of people partying.
Millions of people visiting Paris every year can't all be wrong. |

Paris people are generally uptight and there is a lot of traffic.. but if you're only travelling it doesn't make that much of a difference. There's enough to keep a visitor lured |

I've been there and would classify it as the latter; a traffic-filled dump full of rude people and too many tourists. Although the cultural opportunities are fantastic, I would not want to live there. |

When I was there , about 2 men per day tried to pick me up and take to their beds.. That was awful... Other people were turning up their nose and look at me like on a worm... Their style and behavior... they think they are the best... but when i asked one of them about my country - he didn't know where it is - dumb!! |

Well, it's a big city. I guess it's a bit like any other big city! The old and historical sites are beautiful, there are some beautiful gardens, a unique café life, small quiet squares, on the one side.
It's not the most beautiful city in the World as people sometimes say, though. I don't think anyone can decide where that is, anyway...
On the other side, parisians live and work there, which means they also have bad days, stress... tube, picking up the kids, meetings, working, traffic... When you live in a place, no matter how beautiful it is, you live your life and don't spend your time looking around in wonder. |

I think in terms of man made beauty, Paris is the most beautiful city I've been to (I've been to about 30 countries). I also think the French get a bad rap. If you treat them like they treat each other (i.e. say bonjour monsieur/madam to the store owner/waiter when you enter their place of business) you'll find them to be very friendly people. If you don't, they'll think *YOU'RE* rude and treat you rudely too. |

I love Paris. There's something about it that makes it thrilling to be there. However, it is far from being the most beautiful city in the world. There are soooooo many more cities in the world that are a thousand times more beautiful than Paris. In my opinion, Prague is the most beautiful city in the world. (Of the big cities that is. Czesky Krumlov is more beautiful than Prague and there are just as beautiful small cities all over the place.) |

I think it depends on how you see Paris. There are many beautiful churches small corners of the city that are charming. If you stick to the main tourist areas, maybe it doesn't seem so beautiful. But everyone has different tastes so maybe for some it's not a "traffic-filled dump of rude, selfish people", it's their home, their favorite city or a place that they love to live in/go to. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, so thanks for yours. |

I made the mistake of visiting Paris in uniform (USMC), and have never been treated worse. I have deployed on 3 continents, and the French were absolutely the rudest people I have ever encountered, including the Somalis. |
