Yuck, Paris is definitely NOT the best city...not by a long-shot! If you're looking for loads of culture, good food and transportation, plenty to do, and friendly people, try Amsterdam...as a bonus, most of them can understand English...and they actually like Americans there...go figure! Unless you're gaga from the Louvre or climbing the Eifel Tower...skip it and enjoy the rest of France and Europe!

I live in the UK and love Paris.
People in France love London.

There's a reason why Parisians love their city so. It is without question one of the most beautiful in the world. Almost every street is worth walking on. It's parks are beautiful, plentiful, and safe. In fact, living in the central districts of Paris puts one within walking distance of any number of parks. It has some of the greatest cultural attractions on earth and everywhere you look there's examples of terrific architecture from every age. Speaking or architecture, it is not overloaded with gargantuan towers that block off the light, as in NY. And its culinary attractions are absolutely the best anywhere. Even the fast food stands. There's an old saying that you "can't get a bad meal in Paris." Assuming you stay away from McDonald's that's still true. It has the best & cleanest metro of any city I've ever been to & its public transport system serves every part of the city. It has great shopping -- you can find just about anything on earth here -- and the greatest street markets anywhere. What's more, its not too big. I loved Paris from the day I first set foot there.

Yes, along with London and St. Petersburg

There are many beautiful cities in Europe.
Saying which is "the best" is difficult, it depends on what people expect. I came in Vienna and was really impressed. It seems Brussels is nice too. And I'm talking only of cities which are capitals...

But I guess Paris is probably one of the most beautiful capitals of Europe. Many monuments to see, many museums, a lot of history and culture... even if there are overcrowded subway trains and roads... :( But it's probably the case in many big cities.

Too bad I'm French, and I never took the time to really visit Paris...

I've been to a lot of places in Europe, and I would not pick Paris as the best city in Europe. Here are MY favorite European cities:

1) London, England

2) Venice, Italy

3) Madrid, Spain

4) Rome, Italy

5) Edinburough, Scottland

6) Munich, Germany

Paris is good but most European capitals have something to offer

I think it depends on what you're looking for.

Apparently, Barcelona is great, but you'll probably mostly meet tourists as everybody goes there. But it's a great place for partying. But so are a lot of other capitals in Europe. London, Prague, Paris...

It honestly depends on what you like doing.

As for people who say that the metro is overcrowded... Go to London! I live there, and trust me, it IS overcrowded. What's more, they always have delays because of some defect on the line. And that's coming from a French girl who knows that the French metro workers are regularly on strike.

i've traveled around europe and paris was my first stop, after i left i found that no other place had captivated me so much, i knew i had to go again so it was also my last stop. the museums, the culture, the food, the streets and shops (although i didn't like the a fact most shops close early by 5pm and sometimes the smell of some people) but still you can't really say it can be the best city in Europe unless you've been to every city. as for me, i've been in most major cities in europe and other smaller cities all aorund europe so i can say for me
Paris, France is the best

поцелуй
it depends on what you want to see in the city or what interests you...
Paris is a nice city but I like Rome better. Maybe because I'm more interested with Italian stuff. But of course, if I'm so into the Da Vinci code Movie that was shot in the Louvre, I would like Paris better ;)

Paris is a VERY nice town...But to note european cities is not very useful ;-)))

I'm a parisian girl and I live near "Notre dame"...
From my flat, I can see the "Eiffel Tower", Le "sacré coeur" and "Notre dame"...

And sure , I know many places all around the world and i still find Paris beautiful and VERY romantic...

Don't you know where Carrie Bradshaw decided to live with Mister Big in the "Sexandthecity" TV movies ??????

As the rumour said ;-))))))))

KLB
If you like art, chic cafes, and beautiful scenery, Paris is for you. I'm not sure if it's the best city, but I would recommend you going.

I think some travel destinations get entirely too much attention. Paris and Rome are essentially giant tourist traps and more expensive than most can afford.

I'm sure there are better places to visit.

no. UK is the best in Europe. I've been twice and I'm moving there in September. There's so many different things to see.. museums, killer clubs and bars, so many different types of food.

Paris is like the rumours say.. dirty. not 'romantic'. :- /

No...... it's full of rude & arrogant French people, and my friend Melissa from Illinois told me the place smells bad.

York, in Yorkshire, England is much nicer
