Is it cheaper to rent an apartment or stay in a hotel for a 10 day vacation in Paris, France?
That is not a question with an easy answer despite the single sentence responses you have been getting.
Generally speaking the longer you stay the greater the direct cost advantage of renting an apartment. The big cost break usually comes at a stay of a month or more.
For a stay of 10 days there is not likely to be a cost advantage if you compare a rented apartment to a hotel room with comparable facilities.
If you would consider a hotel at the low end of the scale of cost and amenities then the cheapest hotels will be almost always be cheaper than a 10 day apartment rental. Of course, at that end of the price range, you are talking about a hotel that may be in an inconvenient location or without private shower or toilet facilities or simply run down.
But apart from the direct per day cost of a hotel versus an apartment there may be cost advantages to staying in an apartment that justify a higher per day cost.
There are great savings that come from having kitchen facilities. While some hotels include the price of a simple French breakfast of bread and coffee many others do not and charge often absurdly high prices for it. Being able to make your own coffee in the morning (and make it as you like it and when you want it) and picking up a freshly made baguette or pastry from the local bakery can save money and also be more pleasant.
Being able to stop back at your apartment during the day and having some coffee or a soda that you've bought at the local grocery can, over a ten day period, save quite a bit of money since a simple cup of coffee with milk can cost 10 or 12 euros at a cafe. There are times when you want to sit in a cafe and nurse a drink but there are others when you just want to revive yourself. doing the latter at your apartment saves money.
And, of course, if you eat lunch or dinner bought at a takeaway shop or made from scratch in your apartment rather than eating at a restaurant you are going to save considerable moeny.
Many rental apartments have a washer dryer combination. That convenience means you can pack lighter to begin with and/or deal with the invariable mishaps of spilled this or that. While it may not be a quantifiable cost has considerable practical value.
On the other hand, finding a suitable rental at a reasonable price can be a daunting task and the best places are often booked a year or more in advance. Rental offers are also sometimes quite deceptive and outright fraud is not uncommon so take care if you choose this alternative.
