Is it possible to see Eiffel tower in 3 hrs?

Hi,
I have a flight to US which has a layover of 5:30hrs at Paris(CDG). I plan to quickly see the Eiffel tower in that time. Can somebody tell me if it is really possible to have this trip in 5:30 hrs. I will have to get out of the plane, then the CDG airport, reach the Eiffel tower see the tower(if not the guided tour in the tower), come back to the airport and take my flight to the US.
Thanks in advance for the answer.

You would have to be back at the airport some two hours before your flight. The drive to paris is about 30-45 minutes each way

This leaves you with minimum two hours to wait in line and get up the tower. Depending on the line (which there might not be) you can probably pull it off

If you do you will love it, it's beautiful

I recommend actually vacationing there and seeing it at night with the lights up

Hi,
I have been to Eiffel tower from Paris CDG directly.
I feel the best option is catch a CAB(Car) from CDG directly to Eiffel tower and back.

Next option is Train

You can catch RER train from CDG airport to Paris Central station(Gare du Nord)(Time:30 mins). From there you will have to take Metro(Subway train) to Champ de mars-Tour Eiffel(25 mins)
Paris Metro Map link
http://www.ratp.info/orienter/f_plan_ang.php?loc=reseaux&nompdf=metro&fm=gif

So it will take you 1 hour minimum to be there. You can take the risk if you want.
Since you are new you wont know anything where to go and what to do. So I feel Cab is the best option.

Most of the above answers are accurate, but i dont think anyone has mentioned traffic congestion in and around Paris. This is horrendous, and as it is now getting to the busy season, i would actually question whether you will really have enough time. The queue at the tower can also be very long, something which you cannot foretell until you get there. I agree with the answerer who suggests seeing Paris when you actually have relaxation time. The Tower is magnificent, and the lighting up is gorgeous.
