it's possible...of course. Is it easy? NOT EVEN CLOSE! but it is possible. |

Why on earth would you want to take a three month old child through that? Wait until he/she is old enough to participate and remember the experience. How do you know things are going to go well? You, or the baby could have complications that would make it difficult, uncomfortable or impossible to travel. What an incredibly difficult itinerary for a tiny baby! Why would you want to do that? Just wait. |

yes it is possible, remember all children must have their own passport,
and it is your own decision of course....
i have traveled with children, but not that young....2 years of age......
it can be difficult on the plane,
see how the child is first, quiet or cries often?
than you may decide... |

Congratulations on the pregnancy!
I had been to 60 countries before I had children as had my husband done a lot of travel too. We didn't stop just because of three closely spaced children. It would help if either of you know Paris and had been there before.
I went to Paris with a 5 week old. Okay, we were visiting relatives but it went great.
I used a sling (avoid those awful Bjorns which are so bad for both the child's and parent's back). I could then take buses and Metros without the fuss of a stroller. A good baby carrier makes parenting, not just travel, so much easier.
I have also used a Sit-n-Stroll, an expensive item sold in the States which doubles as a stroller and car seat. It was great for cabs.

Babies are actually welcome in restaurants pretty much everywhere. I recommend you arrive at 7pm, just as they open or eat off hours in open-all-day places. Tables are crammed together quite closely so there isn't much room for strollers in France, especially Paris.
I have to admit that I already live in France and speak French, plus having lived in France, I had no need to see touristy places. I basically just needed to get out to go shopping and see friends. So I can't give any advice about how to actually sightsee there.
In many cities, we have used those tourist double decker buses, which are good for viewing the city without having to brave the crowds or deal with transport. These are great for older kids, like toddlers.
As I have experience with both, I can confirm that it is easier to travel with a breastfed than a bottlefed baby so put off any weaning, if planned, until your return. If you formula-feed, be aware that French brands are entirely different and my son had allergic reactions to them (I ended up buying German brands). Bring enough formula for your *entire* trip and use the bottles with disposable liners. Do not warm the bottle from the start. Not only is this unnecessary health-wise, it's a pain when travelling. Babies do great with room-temperature bottles.
I actually recommend travel in general before the baby starts to crawl. Then you get into having to baby-proofing, solid food and simply, they make more noise. A three month old does little more than sleep, doesn't scream like older babies do, even when unhappy and doesn't leap out of high chairs and give chases in public places. The clothing is less complicated and they're light and easy to carry. I've taken a 8 week old to Switzerland and flown transatlantically with each of mine at 4 months. Wish it were so easy now!
I don't want to be gloomy but realize that there can be medical issues that can crop up that could put off or cancel this trip. Make sure your tickets are refundable and/or get out good travel insurance. Your credit card may provide this.
Be sure to bring a non-mercury thermoter (banned in the EU) and some OTC meds for babies. Don't have to deal with the language differences. Get the name of an English speaking pediatrician in the area where you will be staying. Contact the U.S. Embassy in Paris and or Message, which is an organization of English speaking mothers in Paris.

Like everything, travel is different with kids and you do have to modify things and be realistic. It's possible and even fun but you have to decide if it's worth the cost of a long trip to an expensive destination if you wont be able to do, or fully do, what you really want. This is a very personal decision.
Go with your gut and good luck either way! |
