I do shave but I am no French woman though I am French. From my own experience, most French women I met would shave yet I happened to bump into a couple of them who were real weird. See, we're so broke down here that at times we don't even have a dime left to buy a proper shaver around.... ! |

all the french women I know (a couple dozen in the 20s and then a few who are adults) shave their armpits as well as their legs.
I've discussed this with my sister and mother-in-law who are French and they think this stereotype and others about French people not showering came from WWII when Americans came to France. Back then there were many fewer homes with running water so what we consider good hygiene wasn't feasible for them. They assure me that these days shaving your pits is the norm in France and are disgusted of stereotypes advertising otherwise. |

Why is this even an issue? Who cares about who shaves?
I don't shave at all. I find it annoying. And it's not a question of hygiene. It's very easy to be clean and hairy. (Do you think your head hair is unhygienic? If having hair is so dirty, then why don't you shave your head?)
I think that shaving one's body hair off is unnecessary. I was born with the genes to instruct my body to grow hair on my armpits and legs.
I don't think that shaving just to please a man is what I need to do. I am married and he's happy with me the way I am.
I know a lot of women say that they do it for themselves, but then, what is the benefit for women to do this?
Cons: shaving irritates skin, can cut skin - which encourages infection, takes time, requires a woman to double up in an uncomfortable position while shaving, costs extra money (for electric shavers, it costs to buy and then costs electricity to run; for disposable, it costs to buy and then costs to buy lotions to ease shaving and smoothe skin).
Pros: to get yer man...
Do we, as a sex, really have such low self esteem that we have to change our bodies to attract a man? If he doesn't like you as you are, then he's not worth it!
Alternatively, women shave not just to attract a male, but because they are now conditioned to shave.
Gillette company put out an ad campaigne in the 1920s about how pretty a woman is who is shaved. That's what started it all. Capitalism and greed, people.
p.s. For men who say "But we shave our faces to please the ladies!" I'd say the same to you. I, personally, love my man fuzzy. |

I am a French woman (not "Frech"... check ur question again) and I do shave, so do all of the French women I know. Stop ur stupid stereotypes. I don't think that all American women are fat...
U'd better come and visit France. And p.s, do u think that women who are known to go topless on the beach would go without perfectly shaved armpits and legs?
Go abroad and learn young lady. |
