j'aime bien ces clichés qui circulent sur la France et les français à l'étranger... Les français sont aussi des êtres humains et quand on se marrie on n'a pas envie de voir son concubin se taper quelqu'un d'autre...
Definitly untrue!!!!! |

We don't stuck our nose so much in others love's affairs; we consider everybody deserve a private life as long they don't bother us with their moral principles; Mitterand had a mistress but did not pose himself has a model.
Anyway, 1/3 of mariage are a flop, so I think partners are not so indifferent to each ohers as you think. |

No it isn't true.
What you have probably heard is that we don't care if our politicians have affairs or not, because we judge politicians on their policies rather than their personal life. |

They DO get upset like anywhere else... |

No we DO get upset. If my boyfriend had an affair... I would probably hit him. Very hard.
What's true is that concerning other people, like the politicians (and especially our beloved president), we don't care at all if they are commiting adultery. |

If having affairs in marriage is immoral, I think that the way people get divorced and break childrens' first years is muc more immoral - Moral and hypocrisy are often close neighbours -
And don't forget in an affair there is generally one woman - strange if you think that they all unanimous condemn affairs |

People do get upset if they discover that their partner had an affair. That's ground for break up, divorce and making him or her pay.
It is true that it was the habit of powerful men to have a mistress but that was when divorce was unavailable and women had no money or way to earn it. Things have changed since then. And about that story about our previous president's mistress. His wife chose to stay with him (liked the presidential settings, like Hillary) but made him pay by meddling in politics.
What we don't do is get upset or pruriently fascinated by the private life of politicians, The rest of France was interested to learn about the president's daughter but no more. And the Clinton's 'drama' had us in stitches and pitying Clinton. And we were shocked that our actual president was asked private questions on '60 minutes'. |

Who cares if it is "ok". It is morally wrong and those people should feel really bad about themselves if it is true. I would be heartbroken if the person that I love decided to have an affair because it became socially acceptable for some reason. |
