In french we say "la" tour - means that she is feminine - an I'll tell you something please don't repeat it to anybody - I'm in love with her - so elegant - so self-sufficient - needs no make-up - just the beauty of her 4 main lines - strength hiddden under grace -
She's naked - never suffers from heat or cold, or wind, transparent, eternal -

Don't worry about fussy people, parisians or whatever else -
And believe me, I work very close to her, we share a very high complicity - and never get rid of each other

i live in paris and it's true im fed up with the eiffel tower... its light r so hard. i dislike it, it's one of the ugliest monuments in the city. An iron (fer in french) estructure with restaurants. Anything of interest.

Yes, it is generally true that most parisians sometimes complain about it:

1. too crowded
2. the lights are too glitzy
3. the french army patrols are very strange
4. the gypsy girls that steal and beg there are very sad.
5. all the africans that sell crappy stuff there are very annoying

But, even though they complain and are annoyed it is still regarded with affection by most Parisians and is featured in many recent movies.

I like looking at it from a distance but never actually go there.

I do not specifically go to the Eiffel Tower, but I like to look at night.
She is very nice and Paris is the city of lights.

hi!! I'm from France, and i am not annoyed by her at all! i think paris wouldn't be paris without it! It's high, so wherever i am in paris, i can go back to my house because i know i live left to it haha, and many students go there to drink after school, and you meet many people, and i've never heard someone who said they were bothered by it! But of course, we were born there, so we got used to the idea that it's here and most of us have never been ON it because we see it everyday and don't even think about it!
It's just like people from NY who have never been to the statue of liberty, but us tourists, we go everytime we visit!!

I'm French and I find it not very interesting, I wonder why people find it amazing? when I went there I didn't visit it, I think the price is too high. (I would prefer to see the statue of liberty, it's a nice monument we should have kept it! lol)

Most Parisians I know avoid it because it's a tourist trap and there are a zillion people trying to sell you crappy souvenirs all around there.

When it was first built, yes, many people thought it was horrifically ugly. I can't think who it was right now, but one famous author used to eat lunch under the tower every day because he said it was the only place in the city where he couldn't see the monstrosity!

Today, Parisians recognize that it is an icon of their city and like it for that reason, even if they don't ever go there! How many New Yorkers visit the Statue of Liberty? It's the same idea...

I think they are more annoyed by the light show on the tower and feel that it lacks elan and is tacky.

Jerry
I don't think that annoyed is the right word. They are probably just used to it. Ppl who live in "tourist" cities rarely visit the tourist sites. BTW, the Eifel Tower was supposed to be a "temporary" structure for an exposition, but it has since become a symbol of Paris and of France.

Hi, Yes, Tourists like the"Great Lady" a lot of parisians are annoyed by Eiffel Tower, I agree with posters. This area is a tourist'trap ! Same for the restaurants in the tower, overpriced and not gastronomic. You must reserve 1 month before, if the weather is foggy or rainy, it's a dram ! ! !
In 1888, a letter to many news papers signed by several big names from the world of literature and the arts: Charles Gounod, Guy de Maupassant, Alexandre Dumas junior, François Coppée, Leconte de Lisle, Sully Prudhomme, William Bouguereau, Ernest Meissonier, Victorien Sardou, Charles Garnier and others to whom posterity has been less kind. Other satirists pushed the violent diatribe even further, hurling insults like "this truly tragic street lamp" (Léon Bloy), "this belfry skeleton" (Paul Verlaine), "this mast of iron gymnasium apparatus, incomplete, confused and deformed" (François Coppée), "this high and skinny pyramid of iron ladders, this giant ungainly skeleton upon a base that looks built to carry a colossal monument of Cyclops, but which just peters out into a ridiculous thin shape like a factory chimney" (Maupassant), "a half-built factory pipe, a carcass waiting to be fleshed out with freestone or brick, a funnel-shaped grill, a hole-riddled suppository" (Joris-Karl Huysmans).
I am living from it, When I am walking outdoor I can see it, is it a pleasure or a habit, I can't say ?
