French people are just as clean as any other culture. This is a stereotype started by the English to degrade the french. This was a myth that was caused by the centuries of unrest between the two countries.

OK, lets do some stereotyping:

French stink and are arrogant.
Dutch eat only cheese and are self righteous.
Germans are boring.
Italians steal and make crappy cars.
Polish are lazy.
Americans are dumb.

Japanese people (some) think Westerners smell like butter. If you went to a restaurant in Japan or got on a subway, people would comment to each other on how terrible you smell. That's unlikely to be true. (Since I've never met you I can't vouch for your hygiene.)

NO! That is truly a prejudiced 'rumor'. French men and women bathe the same as we and in fact are known for many of the cleansing soaps, lotions, etc we use.

Well it is true that we French are too poor to buy soap bar. So if we can steal one the n we have to cherish it.

And for Travis, it is true we all carry a white flag in our pocket, but not to surrender. It is a handkerchief. It is always usefull (^_^)

For hornball : women in France are so hairy that we mistake them for chimp.

Seriously, before saying such noncense you guys and girls should forget these stereotype and come to see for yourself and you'll be surprised provided you know where is France of course.

This is total BS. I have family in France and I have stayed with them. They wash with soap every day.

They also have better sense than to run around with a dirty old navy t-shirt on like people in the US do.

No it is not true but there is something here to be learned about cultural differences.

Americans are the most fanatic bathers in the world. They have been exposed to more commercials about soap and deodorants than any other people in history.

Moreover, American is a country founded on Puritanism which finds the human body abhorrent and condemns everything natural as depraved and sinful.

As a result, the average American is impossibly sensitive to the smell of the human body, even a very clean human body.

Unless a person has washed themselves with floral scented soap and shampoo, smeared themselves with deodorants and doused themselves with gallons of cheap cologne thus eliminating every vestige of human scent, an American concludes they are a filthy pig.

This is more a case of a neurotic obsession brought about by continual exposure to advertising coupled with a heritage of religious mania than any reasonable aesthetic sense.

I suspect many people find the overbearing odor of artificial scents offensive and prefer the natural aroma of a clean human body.

You should know too that both German and French people tend to take showers and not bathes to spare the water for our future generations

we care about the earth but that only means that most of us take only one shower per day (unless we got very dirty for some reason)

I have no idea how much soap he uses, but I thought you might like to hear about a little conversation in Germany.
When the war ended some of was assigned to the Military Government. We had all fought all the way across France, and had met and known many French people. Next we fought all the way across Germany, and got to know the German people pretty well.
One time a group of French nurses stopped at the detachment mess hall for a courtesy meal. One of them said," All we hear from you Americans is the Germans are so clean, what are we ,a bunch of pigs"?
Of course we were officers and gentlemen so we couldn't say what was in our minds.

NO!!! it is false. Frenchman uses "only" half bar of soaop each year. Aslo he uses only a toothpate once time per month.

But i travel a lot in the world and I think American and Canadian people are worst than french. When you take the subway the smell is disgusting. They are all fat and smell the perspiration...
