Cannabis and all its by-products are illegal in France. People most certainly do not use it in public nor is it safe to assume that the police will ignore it if you do. If you are arrested and are an American or the citizen of any one of a very large number of countries, your consulate will not give you any help whatever. To commit any illegal act in a foreign country is simply stupid.

There is NO legal drinking age in France. You must be 16 to BUY beer or wine and 18 for distilled alcoholic beverages but there is no law which requires you to be of a certain age to possess or drink alcohol. This is quite different from most of the world in which ages not only to purchase but also to possess or consume are specified by law.

If you plan on going to France to get loaded you'd be well advised to go someplace else. Drugs will get you busted and drinking tends to be expensive.

France is a Latin country, and thus tolerance tends to be considerable and enforcement leisurely. However, there's no telling when they might decide to throw the book at someone (something that is often done to public figures if they fall out of favor with the government).

According to the Wikipedia article linked below marijuana is illegal in all of France but "is tolerated for personal use. Police will generally overlook public use unless the person is attempting to draw attention to themselves."

Based on this I would be careful smoking but it seems like you can probably get away with it as long as you're not being loud or obnoxious. Your best bet would be to ask a few locals when you get there, especially regarding how strict the police is in that area.

The drinking age in France is 16 and 18 to drink strong liquor. According to Wikipedia they may not be strict with ID'ing.

1. Marijuana is not legal in France. It is legal in the Dutch capital, Amsterdam, in specially designated "Coffee Shops"

2. The drinking age is 18 for strong alcohol. 16 is for all other alcohol (beer, wine etc.)

3. No, Marijuana is not "allowed" because many people smoke it (and in any case they don't). Smoking Marijuana in France could land you in prison for possession of drugs.

Weed is illegal and you can get in a lot more trouble for it here than you can in the US (I dont' actually know if you're from the US, but it's an example).

I believe the drinking age is 16 for wine or beer and 18 for hard liquor. But hardly anyone cards, as long as you look at least... 14 or so? And if you are with adults, you almost certainly won't be carded.

You can buy alcohol when you're 16.

If you want find legal marijuana, you should go to Amsterdam, Netherlands, or some else town. You'll find it in "Coffee shops"
