The metro is excellant. It is very well designed with metro stops at just about every location a tourist would want to go (not that they designed it for tourists) and easy to use.
Mnay of the stations have interactive maps which allow you to simply press a button at your desired destination and see, lit up, the proper route to take.
Metro trains are identified by a line number and by the last stop on that particular line to which the train is headed. This is described as the "Direction". Thus "Direction:Pont de Sevres" means that the last stop to which the train is headed is "Pont de Sevres"
In the stations, connections between metro lines (and the RER) are described as a "Correspondence." and may indicate either the line number or the destination or both.
The RATP (the transport authority) has a very useful website, which is available in English at http://www.ratp.fr/
You can click on the English flag for the English language version. The site has a feature for planning a trip between any two points identified by station name, street address, or major landmark. However, you can probably find the most direct route by yourself just by looking at the maps. |

Yes, it's great, and goes everywhere in the city, and has some nice overground sections too. And it's well connected to the suburban and intercity train stations. |

The parisian metro is one the of the best in the world. Even if in France we don't speak very well english you can ask to an employee of the metro with a map in your hand, and he will show you. |

The metro in paris is the most densest of the world and it is not easy to find your way in it, take a map, they give small ones at every station.
There is 14 metro lines and 4 train lines (RER) from A to D
The line 1 (yellow one) crosses Paris from Est to West, thanx to it you can visit Bastille, le marais (typical place, la place des vosges and the jewish district), châtelet (the center of the city near the pompidou center), the louvre, le jardin des tuileries, place de la concorde, les Champs Élysées et the business district (la défense))
The line 6 (green one) is sometime outside (when it cross the seine) and gives a nice view for the eiffel tower. If you stop at Bir Hakeim, you are very near the tower. |
