The pass system works by zones in Paris. All the tourist stuff is in the center, zones 1-2. But Charles de Gaulle is in zone 5. So do not buy a pass that will cover your transportation to the airport (that would be for zones 1-5 and very expensive)!
Buy a separate ticket for leaving and going to the airport. Once you're in Paris, you can buy the passes at any metro station. Many have automatic machines that will let you do it in English with a credit card. |

You can get both a museum pass (either a 2-, 4- or 6-day pass) and a Carte Orange at any Metro station with a ticket booth.
They stop selling the Carte Orange (which is less than 16 Euros) on Wednesday for that week. It allows you unlimited rides on the Metro and RER (within the zone you buy...Versailles and other destinations outside Paris are not included in the Zone 1 and 2 pass) for the week. They're good from Monday to Sunday.
The museum pass is a god-send to bypass crazy lines, esp at Versailles. At Musee d'Orsay, you get to stand in a separate line...you don't get to go ahead of everyone else with a pass, unfortunately, but it's much better than standing in the general admission line. I believe the line is Line D. But don't quote me on that!
If you're not staying in Paris for a long time or you just need a few Metro tickets to last you until your Carte Orange takes effect, it may be wise to buy a Carnet of Metro tickets...it's a pack of 10 tickets and it's less than 11 Euros. All you do is go to the ticket booth and say, Un carnet du dix, s'il vous plait.
Obviously, the Carte Orange is going to be the better deal, so if you can get that, I'd definitely do so.. |

The Metro Stns. If your there for close on a week, your better off getting a Carte Orange, which is BUCKET LOADS CHEAPER.
You will need a passport size photo for this. |
