Paris is filled with bars, cafes, dance clubs, nightclubs and caberets. You'll find heavy concentrations of them in the 4th (the Marais), the 5th (Latin Quarter) and the 6th (St. Germain) arrondissments.

You can buy a one day transport pass called a Mobilis for zones 1-2 (which is all of Paris proper) for 5.80 euros. A "carnet" of ten tickets costs 11.40 euros and individual tickets cost 1.60 euros. A Paris Viste pass costs 14 euros for two days and 19 euros for 3 days.

The Metro does not run all night. but shuts down around 2:00 AM on weekends. Last trains begin departing at around 1:00 AM. After that there is a system of Night buses but, frankly, most tourists will find them difficult to navigate.

French Hip Hop is largely the creation of North African Muslim immigrants from the banlieues, the suburban ghettos around Paris. Its done in very slangly French and Arabic which you will almost certainly find totally incomprehensible.

I can't give you any personal feedback as it's not my type of music or ambiance. (EDIT: I just checked and R&B and hip hop are on Tuesdays and Sundays, on weekends it's more French Caribbean music).

As others said Paris is filled with clubs everywhere and you'll find hip hop & R&B in half of them but on certain nights only.

The large disco called La Loco next to the Moulin Rouge has three dance floors if I remember well, with different types of music so check their program, maybe they'll play music you like on one of the floors. http://www.laloco.com/

If you prefer the left bank, on Fridays & Saturdays, the Next One club plays R&B, house and salsa:

A mÃ©tro ticket is 1.60 â‚¬ and you save 30% if you buy a carnet of 10. So if you are with a friend, you might want to share a carnet for the weekend. The last mÃ©tro runs at approx. 1:45 am at the beginning of a line and 2:15 am at the end, so yeah, around 2:00 am. I agree buses are more confusing than the mÃ©tro for non-locals but you can always try. Otherwise try to choose a club within walking distance to your hotel or wherever you are staying. If it's in downtown Paris it should be easy enough, especially if you are in a safe district.

There's a pub next to the Moulin Rouge called O'briens, it's near my hotel and most of the people there are other tourists. They mostly play hip hop. I'll be there if you stop by!

Go to the Montmatre district of Paris, very good nightlife and bohemian.
Enquire at the nearest metro station which is best for you, they will also give you a timetable.

about the metro-
buy a 2 day "visite" pass online before you go for â‚¬85 which gives unlimited train rides & other "tourist benefits"... or you can go the option of a 10 pack of tickets for â‚¬10.90 which I think is a better option.
