some friends and I stayed at the IBIS hotels. There are hundreds of them in France - they are reasonably priced, clean and comfortable

France is a big country with an abundance of cheap hotels. Where in France?

alan
Formula 1 hotels are cheap and are in most parts of France they have a web site

hec
Accor group (http://www.accorhotels.com/accorhotels/i... has two cheap chains: Formule 1 (http://www.hotelformule1.com/formule1/in...
and l'Etap (http://www.etaphotel.com/etaphotel/index...

You might consider a competing group - Louvre Hotels (http://www.louvrehotels.com/en/louvre-ho... which has chains like Premiere Classe and Hotel Campanile.

Formule 1, l'Etap and Premiere Classe are chepaer, Hotel Campanile is more expensive.

There are Best Western and Holiday Inn chains in France as well.

Some people prefer to stay at French versions of B&B (table d'hotess or gites), they have more character than hotels.
