Paris is actually a lot safer then the other major European cities. Like he said if you stay in a hostel it's not a bad idea to bring a combination lock with you and lock your stuff up. Always keep your important documents (credit cards, passport, tickets ect) in a money belt on you at all times!Even in your sleep! You should secure your backpack from pickpockets on the metro or just not put anything worth stealing in your backpack.. If you have a camera you want to put away bury it in your backpack so if a pickpocket opened a pouch without you noticing he'd have to dig to find it , if a pickpocket doesn't see anything worth stealing right off the bat he won't stick around longer to get noticed, most thieves play it safe they don't use violence... also the locals hate thieves just as much as the tourists so if you notice a thief and call him out the locals will help and catch him... learn how to say thief in French...just as long as you play it smart everything should be ok! Learn some key phrases in French, the locals can be rude about that sort of thing. I would stick to using CDG airport and also make sure you research how to use paris' metro system. The ticket takers don't speak a lick of English so you'll be on your own...Paris is a very fun exciting city so take time to make the right preparations and you won't have to worry about a thing while there... Good Luck!

A travelling backpack is only dangerous if it jumps up and bites your bottom.

The CDG airport is the one you want.

And when did you know English?

Hi! CDG, Roissy, and "paris airport" are the same. There are two major airports in Paris though: Roissy (same as CDG) and Orly.

Backpacking is a bit risky wherever you go but you should be ok. The security risk is in the hotels/hostels. But there are lockers so just keep your stuff locked. The areas around hostels tend to have thieves around. It's not horribly bad - just be careful (same as any metro area).

Paris tends to be a lot safer than most cities its size as the police presence is high and lots of cameras. But still use your common sense and don't do anything dumb.

Bon Courage!
