Isn't the Louvre made of 666 panes of glass?

If it's not, how many panes are there?

I take it you are refering not to the Louvre itself but to the entrance Pyramid in the central courtyard. It consists of 603 rhombus-shaped and 70 triangular glass segments.

Hi, It's not the "Louvre" but the Glass Pyramid, the latest addition to the Louvre one of the finest examples of a combination of modern and historic architecture. On request of the late French President Mitterrand, it was designed by the renowned Sino-American architect I.M. Pei.The number 666 was also mentioned in various newspapers. The Louvre museum however states that the finished pyramid contains 673 glass panes (603 rhombi and 70 triangles). A higher figure was obtained by David A. Shugarts, who reports that the pyramid contains 689 pieces of glass, Shugarts obtained the figure from the offices of I.M. Pei. Various attempts to actually count the panes in the pyramid have produced slightly discrepant results, but there are definitely more than 666.

The Louvre is a museum that used to be the Royal Palace. It has been around for centuries. It is made of stone, wood, cement and there are glass windows. But they most certainly did not make palaces out of panes of glass back in that era.

The glass pyramid you are talking about was only added a few decades ago.

Architectural sources say the pyramid has 603 diamonds and 70 triangles total (i.e. 673 panes in all).

No. The Louvre is a district of Paris - not a museum nor any other building.
