go into your control panel. There should be a link to languages and keyboards. Click there. From there, I think it's pretty self-explanatory...click on: change keyboards, then add, then pick your language. There should be several choices for French...choose one, and click (I would go with continental, or international), then keyboard, then ok, and ok on the text services window, and close everything up. You can toggle back and forth between languages by clicking alt and shift at the same time. I have found it to be wonderfully easy and I don't even go back to the english keyboard any more. |

it's easy, if you are working on a pc: http://french.about.com/library/bl_faq_accents.htm
on a mac, press the option key at the same time as another key and then the letter you want to alter:
- option e + e = é
- option ` + a = à
- option u + i = ï
- option i + o = ô
- option c = ç

clavie, no one in this day and age should have to enter codes to type foreign symbols when far simpler options exist. |

Dude. No offense, but your French is a little scary but it made me smile and miss teaching ;-) So do you want the entire French keyboard where the keys are in different places (not QWERTY) or do you just want to be able to make the accent marks?
If you're on a PC desktop, you should be able to use the Alt key and the number pad to make the accents (make sure NumLock is on). For example, hold down the alt key and type 132 on the number pad and you'll get é. Play around with it - most accents are between 130 and 160. There are only a few accents you need so you can make a cheat sheet to keep next to your keyboard (clavier) and you'll probably memorize them pretty quickly. |

You can look at the character map for the codes - other than that, it depends where you are. In the UK typing ALTGR+e gives a é - but I am told on US settings it doesn't. |

you actually require a French Keyboard tht you can use quite satisfactorily to type english as well, but it is not a QWERTY keyboard and takes some getting used to. Without this it is impossible to get all the accents you require. A downlaod French Dictionary is also as essential tool for spell checking. |
