Je t'apprécie beaucoup. What does this imply if I say that to a guy?

If I tell a French guy this, it DOES NOT mean that I love him right? Does it mean I like him as a friend or more?
Additional Details
does it mean that I like him as a friend though?

It means "I like really you" and there is no love involved, just friendship.

Imagine this. It's a typical sentence that French women will use to answer to a guy who just confesses to her that he is in love with her. But she does not love him in return. She must answer but does not want to hurt him. What will she answer to him then??? "Je t'apprecie beaucoup" meaning you are nice, you are sweet but just you are just friend. See what I mean?

It depends

It depends on

the season
the hour
the dress you wear
if you eyes glitter or not
the music that is playing on the hi fi
etc, etc...

...cheer up !

If you say it to your brother who has just done your homework for you, it means you adore him and are so happy your mother gave birth to him! ...

If you say it to a lover who just did something "extra" in the bedroom, it means you'll never leave him... ;-)

If you say it to a guy you don't know well to let him know you enjoy his company, it means you like (not love) him and enjoy his company.

The wonderful (and complicated) thing about French is that it is a language that is subtle and depends on context. :-)

But don't worry, if he's francophone and you aren't obviously head over heels with him... he'll understand the compliment just as its given.

jhffh
It just means "i like you very much". It does not mean you're in love with him.
