4 weeks ago I stayed at a 2 star hotel called Hotel Andre Gill. For single private room it's about 68.00 per night. It's a quaint little place owned by a family with pets that will meet you in the lobby :p I enjoyed my stay there very much. It's like a block away from a Metro stop that will get you anywhere in Paris. It's also a 5 minutes walk to the Sacre Coeur..beautiful. The private room I stayed in was tiny but reminded me of a room artists would stay in. You can check out the hotel's reviews http://www.hostels.com/en/availability.php/HostelNumber.29

I stayed here in 2004 and it is a very comfortable and safe hotel. It is a great location, I walked to Notre Dame every morning. Also in walking distance of the Louvre. It is a 2 star budget hotel, but do not let the category sway you. It was very nice, decorated very well too and clean. However, I do not think you get free toiletries though, I can't remember. The staff was friendly and the breakfast was good Just a bagguette, coffee, and all the butter and preserves you could eat included in the price. But quite filling.

Rates as of now for a single are about 75 euro, so hopefully you are traveling with someone and you can split the cost.

If that's too expensive, Paris has some great hostels too. I thouroughly enjoyed my stay at the Peace & Love Hostel: http://www.hostels.com/en/availability.php/HostelNumber.2303

But I'd only recommend that if you were looking to party & have a good time! For a mixed dorm it was like $30 a night. If you don't mind sharing a room with strangers. :p Hope this helps!

I've been staying in the same Paris hotel on just about every trip for the last 35 years. The Hotel St. Andre des Artes at 66 Rue St. Andre des Artes in the 6th arr. Metro:Odeon.

Its plain and basic. No minibars, no room service, no cable TV (no TV at all) and no elevator. But its also friendly and with an excellant location in the midst of all the Left Bank action. A five minute walk to Notre Dame, 10 minutes to the Luxembourg gardens, 15 minutes to the Louvre, it can't be beat.

A single is 66 euros and a double 85 euros. ensuite WC and shower in all rooms. Breakfast (coffee, tea or chocolate, bread, butter, jam)) included.
