Better for what?

Since this is the TRAVEL section I will assume you are asking as a potential tourist.

From the perspective of a tourist:

London is vastly more expensive a city for a tourist than Paris.

Paris is more compact and the public transport system is denser (more metro stations in a smaller area) and therefore it is easier for a tourist to get around.

The rate of violent crime is higher in London than in Paris. (London is, in fact, more dangerous than New York City)

The art museums in Paris are superior to those in London. I grant that the V&A is a better museum of science and technology than anything than can be found in Paris. One has to decide whether they would rather view the Mona Lisa or a steam locomotive.

Paris taxicabs are cheaper than those in London and because Paris is more compact getting home from late night entertainment is easier. Indeed, because good, inexpensive hotels can be found in Central Paris, you can usually walk back to your hotel.

For English speakers obviously London is superior to Paris as while many Frenchmen do speak English the fact is that many do not. Of course, it does seem that a lot of Londoners speak better Punjabi or Urdu than English.

While at the high end, food in London now compares favorably with food in Paris, the general standard of British food remains well below that in France. My observation is that while there has been improvement at the top that London food at the pub grub level has declined precipitously. One is more likely to find horrid things like Nachos and microwaved pizza in a pub in London these days than honest British food like steak and kidney pudding or pork pie.

While Brits are perfectly pleasant people for the most part the segment of the population that consists of soccer louts and binge drinkers is disgusting and has no equivalent in France (except to the extent that British soccer louts and binge drinkers find their way to Paris).

One area where London far exceeds Paris is in its live theatre which is probably better than any other place on earth. Sadly is no longer the inexpensive activity it once was. I remember the days when 50p would get a seat in a West End production. I can even remember paying only 10Â£ to rent a box (Okay that was 35 years ago).

London is a marvelous city but on balance I prefer Paris. That's why I'll be spending October in Paris and haven't given much thought to popping over to London.

London. A much nicer city than overhyped Paris.

Women tend to prefer Paris and men London. Paris is a feminine city and London more masculine. I've lived in both and prefer Paris.

Definetely Paris! It is my favorite city in the world!! It is so beautiful and cultural and historic. I hear the people are amazing. Go to Paris.

Paris definately there is so much history and things to do! But i am from France so i have a bias. But if you cant decided do both! Go to one first and then take a cheap ferry ride to the other! If its about money find which city is the cheapest to fly in and out of then take the ferry or even a plane to the other! You can do both so thats the beauty of Europe!

well im an englishman so i would be a bit biased probably london for museums they have the british museum(best in the world) the natural history museum, the marime museum and the victoria and albert museum, wheras paris has the louvre (home of the mona lisa). the parisians are very arrogant and ignorant people wheras londoners are more friendly, but you have more chance of being the victim of crime in london. . Depends what you want but statistically speaking London is the biggest and most visited city in Europe

I went to Paris and London on my honeymoon and loved both. I loved both of them for the rich history and the architecture, but I'm slightly partial to Paris with all the rich foods, breads and chocolate shops on every corner. You could do both and jump on the Eurostar train that will get you to London in about 2 hours from Paris. 2 great cities worth seeing.

london of course...have you actually seen paris??? it's filthy..though london is not perfect but it has more to offer for tourists like museums and shopping of course...
