It is as has been said, one of the best small hotels in the world.

Of course, given that the cheapest room, off-season will cost you at least 255 euros a night it damned well better be the best hotel in the world. Prices spiral upward to 740 euros a night for the best room in the place.

And it is also true that the restaurant is run by a very well respected chef and serves excellant food. But then, given that the Menu Degustation runs to as much as 125 euros a person it ought to.

If you have a great deal of money and don't intend to leave your hotel room then this is a wonderful choice. For me, even though I can afford such things, it makes my teeth ache to think of spending that much money for a place to sleep or for a meal.

I know l'Hotel very well. (Left Bank: 13 rue des Beaux-Arts 6eme) It is one of the best boutique hotels in Paris - if not the world. There is a fabulous spiral staircase in the centre that has been featured in some Hollywood and French films.

There is also an excellent restaurant although I cannot remember the name of it. The food is fabulous! I would highly recommend it for a couple of nights - very romantic. Excellent choice! Lucky girlfriend!

The website is www.l-hotel.com

Almost all individual hotels (family or small business, not corporate chains) in France are named "L'Hotel de...", which means "The hotel of..." (i.e. "The hotel of the Seine", or "The Hotel of the Two Roses", etc...)
