Lovely quiet place in France to stay for a 3 week holiday. Can you recommend anywhere?

If you want to be in a sunny and quite worn place in oct-nov, it's better for you to go in the south of France. going to the beach at this period is possible, but you won't swim or spend time in short clothes, it will be autumn here (i'm french) and it won't be really easy to feel like in summer, just note that ! once you know that and forget to stay on a beach all day long, you can also visit Brittany, where I live, and discover all our beautiful landscapes, seaside, countryside, culture (food, drinks, music...), "old stones"... what I would recommand you as you leave for 3 weeks, is to spend one week in Brittany, one in the south of France close to the Mediterranean sea, and one in the alp mountains or somewhere else. for accommodation, I have a good tip : http://www.couchsurfing.com, it offers you free accommodation by people who just want to meet and host travelers. in this couchsurfing project, you have a "family welcome group" in with you can easily find a free place to stay for the 4 - 5 of you. i'm a member of this project and of this family welcome group and really invite you to discover it. if you subscribe just let me know... anyway I hope you will have a nice stay in France.

Several years ago I spent a few days recovering in a town called St. Brevin Les-Pins. It is a quiet coastal resort town that seems to cater to French toursits on weekends. I had had a stressful adventure and needed a quiet place to relax.

It is on a bay off the Atlantic. There were winsurfing lessons, a movie theater, a small casino in one hotel. I spent some time tracking down some pre-historic and megalithic sites.

It was very relaxing.

I can make no promises. Things may have changed in the last decade. I was there in August. I have no idea what the weather is like in October.

St. Paul de Vence is a beautiful village a bit up from the coast in the South of France. It is quiet, great shops, a restaurant called La Colombe D'Or has lots of great artwork by Matisse, Braque, Leger & Calder that the artists paid for their food with before they became famous,The Maeght Foundation Museum, a truly romantic place. It's about a 15-20 minute drive down to the beach near Nice.

The west (Atlantic) coast of France from La Rochelle down to St Jean de Luz on the Spanish border has some great beaches. Unfortunately the weather is likely to be too cold and wet to make good use of the beaches and the resort towns will generally be shut, out of season. However, if you want to walk along deserted beaches and sand dunes you'll enjoy it and will get great rates at hotels at that time of year. Have a look at the Logis de France website for family run country hotels usually slighly off the beaten track but serving local cuisine and, of course, the wine!

On the south coast of Britanny is the town of Vanne. Just west of it is a marine incursion ie a lake, with a tiny inlet/outlet to the sea. Great place to holiday, staying in a couple of the villages there. Buses go to and from Vanne (which has a station.) To the west is Carnac with the huge site of prehistoric standing stones. The "lake" is warm for swimming, produces oysters, clams etc
and the local tipple is both wine and cider. You'll love it and Sept/Oct is the best time. I've been there three times over 20 years and had a great experience.

They rent self-contained apartments. I would suggest renting in cap-d'agde (I did twice, then bought my own).

You will find beaches, a great sailing and a sub-acqua center, a golf course, nice cities close by (Montpellier, Sete, Pezenas), vineyards, even a fun fair (citÃ© des loisirs). Great fun for all the family. In October/November, it is still quite sunny, but I could not guarantee that you could swim in the sea.

Biarritz,but the weather could be a little wet...or hot and sunny(extremely variable down here) .If you come here "out of season"...ie: after august,all the place is yours!.Enjoy.Ps,I have spent many seasons here since 1990!

You may like to consider Corsica. It is truly beautiful, There are fantastic beaches, lots of very French villages, spectacular mountain scenery, fabulous weather, everything for all ages.
