I don't know how long you'll be in Paris but this is what I suggested to my little sister who is making her first trip to France in a couple months (she'll only be in Paris 2 days):

1. Musee d'Orsay: for the Impressionists, sculpture, photography and other famous works (like 'Whistler's Mother). They have a restaurant that is not expensive and has a beautiful view of the Seine.

and/or

The Louvre: the most famous museum in the world and home to Venus de Milo, Mona Lisa and many other famous works of art.

2. Sacre Coeur: This is the famous white basilica which is surrounded by artists and portrait painters. It also has a beautiful view of Paris from its steps.

3. Harry's New York Bar: if you're into the Moderns and Ernest Hemingway (he used to drink here). Now it's a sports bar, kind of expensive, but supposedly the food is great (I'm a vegetarian so I didn't eat while I was there)

4. A walk along the Seine: go to a boulangerie for lunch and pick up a baguette sandwich and a drink, then take a walk on the quays. You can eat under one of the shade trees along the river. Here you'll be at the heart of Paris with a beautiful view and some good but inexpensive French food!

5. Notre Dame Cathedral: The most famous of gothic buildings, as well as the setting for Victor Hugo's novel The Hunchback of Notre Dame, everyone must see this place, even if it's just a view of the gargoyles and bell towers from outside!

6. Take a stroll on the Champs-Elysees and end it at the Arc de Triomphe. Champs Elysees Blvd was meant for walking, window shopping, and people watching, as is also of historical interest (remembered best in Americans' minds as the street Hitler's army paraded down when he took Paris). This is where you'll find restaurants, movie theatres, specialty stores and cafes galore, too. At the end of the Blvd is the Arc de Triomphe, which of course, everyone's got to see when in Paris! Along with....

7. The Eiffel Tower, which I'm sure I don't need to tell you about. It's open until midnight at this time of year, so go late for a night time view. (I don't know why, but in France it stays lighter much later than in the U.S.)

You could do all of this comfortably in 2 days. I don't know how long you're staying, but there's a LOT more to see and do if you're going to be there longer. Check out Frommers on line - they have a lot of itineraries for people taking their first trip to Paris.

Typical tourist activity, but go to the top of the Eiffel Tower. And not just part way- go all the way! The view is amazing. It was my favorite part of Paris. Notre Dame is pretty cool too if you like old Gothic Cathedrals(not everyone does, but it's pretty neat) See some of the Louvre, you'll never have time to see it all, but get in the major things. Sacre Couer is really great looking at night because it's white & stands out nice.

1. go to montmartre.
2. go to laudree for pastries.
3. ride the river cruises - best for photos
4. jump on the metro and ride all over
5. get snacks / picnic items at grocery stores - cheap and cultural.

you have to visit the Eiffel tower during the day and at night, to lay on the grass in mar's champ while you drink wine.
I think Notre Dame is beatiful, but Sacre-Coer is gorgeous.
.You have to ride on a boat in the Sena river, to gaze at the sculptures and paints at the louvre museum.
If you have time I suggest to visit Versailes palace it's really amazing.

Take a bike tour! That was definately the best part of my trip to Paris, it gives you a totally diffrent view of the city, and makes you appreciate bike lanes a whole lot more.
