No frills: Residence du Palais
no front desk, no lobby, no phone or alarm clock in room, shared toilets, private shower in room, no daily housekeeping, no air conditioning, not all windows have coverings, no internet access in the rooms (but you can go to the cafe next door), fantastic location across the street from Jardin du Luxembourg
Some frills: Hotel Magendie
small rooms, private toilet/shower room, daily housekeeping, elevator to all floors, very good location near 3 metro stations, 24-hour front desk with English-speaking personnel, nice breakfast room, no air conditioning, adequate seating in lobby area. I don't know about internet access because the business school I was attending was only a few blocks away, and I could use the computers there.
Both of these can be booked online |

Hôtel Tolbiac in Chinatown, in the 13th arrondissement (if you like Chinese food, it's perfect, there are several fantastic Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants very close by). I often stay there, it's easily reachable by metro and has this typical Parisian atmosphere. It is not a neighborhood with a lot of tourists and it will take you about 20 minutes to reach for example Notre Dame.
Their most expensive room costs 50 euros (private bathroom and toilet). They recently redecorated and refurnished the hotel.
This is their website: http://www.hotel-tolbiac.com/index.html |

Hotel Cecilia, I went with an ex for 5 nights and including flights from the UK it cost us 350 each....it's a lovely little hotel about 300 metres away from the arc de triomphe, very friendly staff, rooms were nice but nothing special but would definitely recommend this little gem! |
