No you don't, you can drive a right hand drive car in France, all you need is a little more attention to details and to refrain your urge to take over. Just make sure you put the stickers on your head lights so that you don't blind incoming cars.

British hire firms do not stock right hand drive vehicles as there is no demand for them there. Left hand drives are allowed on the continent and British people just take their own vehicles across the Channel.
Apparently there is a scheme whereby you can hire a right hand drive car in the UK and exchange it for a left hand drive when you get to Calais, but you would have to investigate if it is worth your while financially.
