New Years Eve in Paris?

My boyfriend and I are considering ringing in 2009 in Paris. What's the weather like? Are the hotels affordable? Is it the off-season? Any information would be wonderful.

Also, we might travel around Europe before and after the new year. Any places we should visit, particularly in late December or early January?

I spent last NYE in Paris, and it was very nice. The weather will probably be mostly overcast and chilly, with a bit of rain each day. During the 10 days I was there, it rained each morning and stopped by the middle of the day. One day the sky was perfectly clear for a couple of hours, but it sleeted.

Depending on how long you're staying, you might want to rent an apartment rather than stay in a hotel. However, If you decide to stay at a hotel, there are all different price ranges and levels of quality. One of the affordable places I've stayed was the Hotel Magendie in the 13th district. It is conveniently located to three metro stations, two main roads, and several bus lines, and is walking distance to rue Mouffetard (a street market). The rooms are small, but comfortable enough since you probably won't spend much time there. The hotel offers a nice continental breakfast buffet for a small additional charge (get there early for a pain du chocolat). The front desk staff speak very good English in case you don't speak French.

Another relatively affordable hotel that I stayed in was AppartValley Hotel. This one is on the edge of the Latin Quartier, half a block from Gare d'Austerlitz, which is a big metro & RER station. There's the Jardin des Plantes directly across the street from the hotel and a main street with shops and cafes between the gare and the hotel. The downside to this place is that the front desk is not manned all day, so you have to check in during the late afternoon, which is not convenient if you're flying in from the US because you would typically arrive in the late morning or early afternoon. On the other hand, it's very nice to have a little kitchen in the room.

Dont consider DO Paris! I wish that it were me. I have always wanted to go to Greece but I think that it is cold in those places this time of year.

New years Eve us pretty much peak season wherever you go. If you do want to go to Paris then i would book up sooner rather than later as i am sure it's very popular.
What about having dinner at the Eiffel Tower?
Weather will be cold.

Europe does not hate Americans!!!!!! We just hate smart arses!!!! *LOL*

Big Booty Judy(:
Well paris would be nice and there is a website go to www.paris.com and they have everything u could need

Wonderful lights, great wine but the weather? Take a warm coat, a good muffler, gloves and a strong umbrella. It often snows even in early winter. The Ibis hotel chain offers resonable rates and breakfast is usually included. Some are newer then others. And hotel rooms in Paris will be small by American standards so keep that in mind. But when you are in love, well, there is no place quite like Paris!
Bonne chance!

Mister C.
Be very very careful in Europe, they hate Americans you know, and they don't take American Express!
