I like French people. I know that a lot of Americans are very angry with the French just now because of the general response to 9/11 in France, as well as the Sadaam Hussein issue. As a result, you will probably get a lot of vitriolic responses to your question. Please ignore those people.

As I said, I like the French people, and I think, on the whole, French people have no problem with Americans. However, the French have been very vocal about their contempt for Americans for many, many years. I am from Louisiana, and when I visit France, I make sure I let people know that right away. Otherwise, the French can be a bit unwelcoming of Americans, and this is dating back 25 years or more. Please remember that this is the impression a lot of Americans have of the French because this has been their experience, and this is what the French media like to promote. I'm pointing this out to you so that you don't judge Americans by the hateful responses of some people, just like I don't judge the French by the contemptuous attitude that is often the only side we see of France.

I have visited France several times, and I've enjoyed my stay each time, though I have had to dodge a lot of anti-American rhetoric. I speak French, but I'm out of practice and not very confident, or I would have written this in French. My husband is a Francophone, though not from Europe. And my family is of French heritage, so I have a lot of ties to France. I hope that some day, the Americans and the French can put their differences aside again and become the friends we were when the people of France so generously gave us our greatest symbol, the Statue of Liberty.

Why not go on the AMERICAN site and ask them, instead of asking people on the U.K site.

LOL
of course we are very nice ,well I am anyway. But then again I have been living in the UK for the past 11 years so I am nearly British.

I hate going to France nowadays because they have become very rude ,grumpy,......everything that I am not!

French people are nice people for the most part. They can be seen as aloof and arrogant but they are not indifferent from Americans. Having visited France and also having known French peoples here in the USA, they are very warm and friendly people!

I think they are really cool. When I was in France, people were very nice and helpful. Living in Ireland, I knew many nice French people. Maybe it helps I speak French, but I didn't encounter the sterotypical rude French person. They are lucky to have such a rich culture. The French art, food, language, and fashion are all so interesting.

I just don't like it when I hear that the French hate Americans. So then I'm like, well I hate them too. Juvenile, I know. ha

Uneducated Americans may consider French people as cowards and think they should be more grateful because they helped the French to get rid of the Nazi invaders during WW II.
But America is the mightiest country in the world and its people are usually very scornful to the rest of the world.
